General Nature of Work
- Under supervision, promotes good individual and community health by assisting individuals and communities to adopt healthy behaviors and environments.
- Works with vulnerable and underserved individuals, groups, and communities to improve access to care
- In an effort to improve health outcomes, educates individuals, groups, and communities about available Public Health Services
- Communicates with Public Health Leadership about community needs and makes recommendations regarding improved uptake of services
- Links individuals to other resources that might impact health outcomes, such as housing, child care, and educational opportunities
- Provides outstanding customer service
- Maintains HIPAA standards related to Privacy and Security
- Responds to Public Health Emergencies
Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree in public health education from an accredited college or university OR Bachelor’s degree in education, social, behavioral, or biological sciences or a directly related field from an accredited college or university. (Please mail or bring a copy of College Transcript or Diploma to Interview—must have official transcript prior to start date. This position requires lifting up to 45 lbs., working outside going door-to-door in neighborhoods, visiting businesses, and participating in community events such as Health Fairs. Willingness to work some evenings and weekends at special events.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous employment with any state’s Department of Public Health or a County Board of Health
- Experience with establishing and or participating in community coalitions/workgroups or initiatives
- Bilingual (Spanish), ability to interpret and translate health care information orally and in writing from English to Spanish and from Spanish to English.
- Previous experience providing health education or conducting health promotion activities

This position may require driving company vehicles (Valid driver’s license required) and working some evenings and weekends during special events such as health fairs and responding to disasters. Drug screen, criminal background check and immunization records may be required. If selected, male applicants between 18 and 26 years of age must present proof of Selective Service Registration.
