What are the responsibilities and job description for the PT Law Enforcement Officer I position at Southwest Virginia Community College?
Southwest Virginia Community College is seeking an individual for the role of part-time Law Enforcement Officer for the Cedar Bluff campus.
The successful candidate will be able to foster trust within our diverse community and problem solve through collaboration.
Responsibilities will include:
- Observing and reporting any and all incidents while on campus
- Performing foot patrols in and around all buildings on campus
- Monitoring and assisting with residents in the adjacent housing complex
- Maintaining a professional yet approachable manner with the public
- Opening and securing buildings and classrooms
- Occasional transport of mail and bank deposits and withdrawals
- Basic upkeep of assigned equipment and tools
- Directing traffic
- Assisting students, faculty, and visitors with daily calls of service (keys locked in vehicle, boosting vehicle batteries, directions, etc.)
- Following instructions and directives from supervision
- Supporting special events
- Assisting individuals interested or enrolled in all opportunities at Southwest Virginia Community College
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
- Must be able to pass a drug screening
- Must hold a valid VA Law-enforcement Certification
- Must be able to pass CPR training (obtain certificate)
- Must have a valid driver’s license
- Cannot have criminal convictions excluding traffic offenses
- Must be physically fit enough to walk the campus, stairs, hallways, etc. and stand multiple hours in all types of weather
- Must possess excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills
- Must have basic computer skills
- Must be available to work different shifts and weekends upon request
- Law-enforcement experience required
- Experience using radio communications equipment
- Ability to multitask
- Must maintain confidentiality, respond to internal and external requests for information and work with a diverse group of individuals
- Experience using radio communications equipment
- Community college work experience
- Experience using PeopleSoft
