In particular, we are looking for an organized, resourceful individual, who is not shy about making calls and striking up conversations, who is dogged and can push through challenges, and who is eager to explore new strategies for finding support for our important work.

About ACLC:

ACLC is a nonprofit law firm that fights for justice in the Appalachian coalfields by representing citizens and communities who have been affected by present and past abuses of the mining industry. About the job:

Day-to-day work will focus on finding new funders, developing and presenting funding proposals, and communicating with potential and existing funders. To do this successfully will require regular communications with ACLC program staff to track and document the successful work being done. In addition, the position will be responsible for creating regular communications materials, such as newsletters, blogs, brochures, and ACLC’s annual fundraising appeal. The position will be responsible for tracking, communications, and reporting related to foundation grants. The position will facilitate the fundraising committee of ACLC’s board and work closely with the board on fundraising. Finally, the position will be required to plan and carry out fundraising events and donor engagement activities.

Location:

The position will be based full-time in our office in Whitesburg. Depending on the candidate’s level of experience and fit, ACLC will consider a hybrid option so long as the candidate can regularly commute to ACLC’s office in Whitesburg, Kentucky.

What We Seek:

  • A personal commitment to ACLC’s mission
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills
  • Good organization skills for tracking and reporting funding activities and deadlines, primarily using Excel
  • Someone who will happily communicate with funders and potential funders by phone and email on a daily basis
  • A self-starter, who works well independently, and shows initiative in developing and improving upon systems to streamline ACLC’s fundraising and communications efforts
  • Someone who has the resolve to keep after promising leads even when barriers arise
  • An investigative personality who diligently searches for possible new connections for ACLC
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including willingness and ability to work as part of a team
  • Willingness to plan, execute, and/or attend events to support ACLC visibility and fundraising
  • Someone who is comfortable using social media platforms
  • Preferred but not required qualifications:
  • At least 5 years of prior nonprofit fundraising experience;
  • A proven track record of creating and enacting fundraising strategies, with success in soliciting and obtaining multi-year foundation grants;
  • Experience securing major gifts.
