Peer Recovery Specialist (Saltville, Bristol)
The Peer Recovery Specialist’s role is to support others in recovery from a substance use disorder. The Peer Specialist will serve as a role model, mentor, advocate, and motivator to recovering individuals in order to help prevent relapse and promote long-term recovery. The Peer Specialist must demonstrate an ability to share personal recovery experiences, to instill hope, and to develop authentic peer-to-peer relationships. The Peer Recovery Specialist will serve as a member of the interdisciplinary New Day Recovery team and provide support to the peer recovery center. The CEO/Executive Director and the Governing Board reserve the right to adjust schedules and transfer any staff member within the organization, at any time for the benefit of our patients and the overall operations of Southwest Virginia Community Health Systems, Inc.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED
2 years of Healthy Recovery
Valid driver’s license
Acquired or in process of acquiring Certified Peer Specialist qualifications
Ability to collaborate effectively in a team setting
Working knowledge of SUD and MH treatment.
Demonstrate a commitment to recovery and the recovery community
Computer experience and comfort with data entry and analysis
Basic knowledge of mental health and substance abuse disorders
Knowledge of community resources and referral processes.
Ability to use independent judgment and manage confidential information.
