Substance Abuse Counselor (Saltville, VA)
Overview
Southwest Virginia Community Health Systems is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Substance Abuse Counselor to join our Saltville team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in behavioral health and mental health counseling, with a focus on supporting individuals struggling with substance abuse issues. This role involves providing counseling, developing treatment plans, and facilitating group therapy sessions to assist clients in their recovery journey.
Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of clients to determine their needs and develop individualized treatment plans.
- Provide one-on-one counseling sessions to clients addressing substance abuse issues and related mental health concerns.
- Facilitate group therapy sessions, utilizing evidence-based practices to promote recovery and coping strategies.
- Maintain accurate medical documentation and client records in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive care.
- Monitor client progress and adjust treatment plans as necessary based on ongoing assessments.
- Participate in community outreach and prevention programs.
- Assist with orientation, case management, referrals, and discharge planning.
- Stay informed about current trends in substance abuse treatment and participate in ongoing professional development.
Requirements
- Credentialed addiction treatment professional approved to practice substance abuse counseling services by the Virginia Board of Health Professionals (i.e. CSAC). Supervision is available for CSAC or SW Supervisees.
- One to three years of experience in behavioral health settings, particularly with substance abuse counseling.
- Strong understanding of medical documentation practices and the management of medical records.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to build rapport with clients from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team-oriented environment while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
- Familiarity with FQHC settings is a plus.
