To perform various cleaning of dishes, utensils and cookware. Assist cooks with food preparation and kitchen cleaning as assigned. To perform custodial duties to maintain the attractiveness, cleanliness and general safety of all Dining Services facilities. 
 
This is a temporary position for high business demand and coverage of staff while on leave. Hours may vary and must be able to maintain an on-call status.Kitchen Support (60% of Time)
  1. Operate dish machines using proper measurements of detergent and sanitizer.
  2. Restock all dishes, glassware, utensils, pots and pans.
  3. Remove all dishes, trays and garbage from depository racks keeping all dish and storage areas clean and organized.
  4. Perform various cleaning tasks, including sweeping and cleaning floors; removing trash and wiping tables and furniture in the dining hall. Other cleaning tasks may include deck brushing and wet mopping specific floor areas using such equipment as brooms, mops and vacuum cleaners.
  5. Assist with the daily functions of stock rotation and receiving.
 Garbage and Recycling (35% of Time)
  1. Remove all garbage and separate in accordance with Dining Services and Institutional recycling guidelines.
  2. Sort and deposit recycling.
  3. Breakdown boxes.
Machine Maintenance (5% of Time)
  1. Break down, clean and sanitize all dish machines when needed or as directed.
  2. Maintain department cleaning tools and other department equipment in proper working condition.
Performs Other Duties and Special Projects as Required/Assigned REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Up to one (1) year of dishwashing/custodial restaurant experience required. 
 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
ServSafe Certification is preferred.
Preference will be given to those candidates with a post high school degree.
Preference will be given to those candidates with a minimum of two (2) years full-time experience in a related hospitality setting. 
 
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS OR LICENSES
Hold or ability to obtain a valid food handler's card is required by date of hire.

  • Ability to work with time deadlines and a high level of accuracy using independent judgment.
  • Ability and willingness to manage a flexible work schedule with self-discipline, including various hours and possible weekends/evenings. 
  • Ability to consistently convey a pleasant and helpful attitude by using excellent interpersonal and communication skills to control sometimes stressful and emotional situations. Requires sufficient communication and human relations skills to resolve confrontations and gain cooperation.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, using the English language with or without the use of an interpreter.
  • Ability to read, review, understand and apply concepts presented in training programs, conferences, federal regulations, professional literature and other related materials.
