SSI is seeking a Satellite Systems Engineer to provide Systems Engineering and Technical Advisory (SETA) support to a System Program Office (SPO) at our Customer in Chantilly, VA. The candidate will be the technical point of contract for Command and Data Handling (C&DH) and Data Storage component for a mission critical satellite system. This role focuses on the development, integration, and testing of satellite C&DH subsystems, ensuring seamless communication between onboard systems and ground operations.

Specific Duties May Include, but Not Limited to the Following:
- Review developer C&DH and flight software architectures and designs for onboard data handling (OBDH) capabilities
- Familiarity with microcontrollers, Application Specific Integrated Circuits (ASICS), Field-Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs), embedded processors and single board computers (e.g., RAD750, LEON3/4, ARM), system interfaces (e.g., SpaceWire, MIL-STD-1553, CAN Bus, RS-422), and storage technologies for space applications
- Review developer plans for hardware and software integration, component (box)-level performance and environmental testing (vibration, shock, thermal vacuum, electromagnetic interference (EMI)/electromagnetic compatibility (EMC))
- Oversee acquisitions by focusing on systems engineering processes, ensuring successful integration through lifecycle readiness reviews, including system requirements definition, design, verification, and validation
- Experience with flight hardware development, including Material Review Boards (MRB), Parts, Materials & Processes (PM&P), procurement, assembly documentation, and End Item Data Packages (EIDP)
- Serve as a technical liaison between the Government and development contractors, fostering clear communication and alignment between all stakeholders
- Prepare high-impact documents and briefings to communicate project status, findings, and recommendations to Government and industry stakeholders
- Experience with Earned Value Management (EVM), including analysis of Cost Performance Reports (CPR) and Cost Funding Status Reports (CFSR), with the associated metrics
- Experience with subcontract management, including RFP development, Statement of Work (SOW) creation, proposal evaluation, fact-finding, and contract execution
- Must possess an active Top Secret/SCI clearance and CI polygraph (polygraph within the last ten (10) years)
- Bachelors degree in engineering and eight (8) or more years of experience; Masters degree and eight (6) or more years of experience
- Experience with the design and test phases of the satellite mission lifecycle
- Excellent interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical topics to senior decision-makers with varying technical backgrounds through clear briefings and written reports.
- Willingness to travel up to 25%
- Experience with all phases of the satellite mission lifecycle, from concept development and design through integration, testing, and post-launch operations
- Experience with space systems design, development, assembly, integration, and testing, including architectures, spacecraft, and payloads, for the Intelligence Community (IC) and/or the Department of Defense (DoD)
- Experience in a Government/Contractor team environment on a space acquisition
- PMI PMP, INCOSE CSEP/ESEP, or equivalent certifications in project management and/or systems engineering
