GENERAL PURPOSE
Under the general guidance and direction of the FitCity Center Manager, this position oversees the fitness aspects of the Recreation Center, including equipment, classes, and personal training.
Essential Functions
- Under the direction of the FitCity Center Manager - plans, organizes and supervises fitness programs, classes, and special events.
- Develops program budgets and operates within the guidelines of budgets. Promotes programs by creating public information. Communicates with the webmaster to post program information including flyers & schedules, etc.
- Performs various administrative duties, including arranging clinics and training sessions for fitness instructors and trainers, strategic planning, program development/evaluations, performance measures, and employee hiring, training, supervision and performance evaluations.
- Manages the new hire process, trains, schedules, and reviews the work of the fitness instructors and personal training staff. Performs disciplinary actions as needed.
- Manages and coordinates all bidding, ordering, distribution, collection inventory and storage of fitness instructor uniforms and equipment. Conducts equipment needs assessments; facilitates maintenance and replacement of equipment.
- Communicates and coordinates with the Memberships & Operations Supervisor on program locations and scheduling.
- Assists other staff members and the public as needed.
- Must be able to meet attendance and punctuality requirements for this position including working some nights, weekends, and holidays. Must abide by all city policies and procedures. Must work well with others and be a team player.
- Must be able to perform the physical demands of the job, including frequently lifting up to 50 pounds without assistance, and up to 150 pounds with assistance and without difficulty.
- Must establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, volunteers, community organizations, members and guests, governmental agencies, contractors and vendors.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Education and Experience: Bachelor's Degree in Recreation Management or closely related field. Plus two (2) years of professional experience in recreation/fitness program management or equivalent education and experience.
- Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Working knowledge of word processing, scheduling programs, spreadsheets and graphics programs. Ability to research and determine the fitness needs of diversified public user groups and implement programs to satisfy those needs; analyze the value and cost effectiveness of activities; complete accurate records and statements; enforce rules and regulations firmly, but with tact; demonstrate good judgment in decision making. Good communication skills are vital. Ability to handle stressful situations in a calm and productive manner. Ability to represent the department in a professional manner to the general public. Organizational, marketing, public relations, scheduling and budgeting skills.
- Must possess or be able to obtain a Red Cross Certification in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation
- Ability to work well with other employees.
- Special Requirements: Valid Utah Driver License.
