Job Title: Program Specialist
Location: White Plains, Westchester County
Hours: Monday-Friday 8:30am-4pm
Reports to: Program Director
Job Overview:
The Program Specialist is responsible for overseeing and executing regularly scheduled programs. This role involves direct interaction with teens and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, ensuring their engagement and enjoyment. The Program Specialist will work closely with the Program Manager to implement activities and collaborate with program assistants to ensure activities are carried out safely.
Qualifications:
· Degree in Education or a related field, or 2 years of experience in a human services setting.
· Experience working with children, teens, and/or adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities is highly desirable.
· Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software.
· Ability to design and carry out curriculums and activities as assigned by the Program Director and Program Manager.
· Ability to redirect participants and address incidents promptly.
· Diligent about record keeping, detail-oriented, and proactive.
· Flexible and adaptable to changing needs and environments.
· Committed to promoting and maintaining a safe, inclusive, and positive environment for all participants.
· Ability to maintain open, honest, and compassionate communication with individuals, families, care managers, and co-workers.
· A team player mentality with exceptional interpersonal skills, enabling you to take initiative and collaborate seamlessly with our dedicated staff to achieve programmatic goals.
Responsibilities:
· Assess participants and create activities at the appropriate level.
· Track and show growth.
· Provide program quality assurance for program assistants.
· Collaborate with the Program Manager on participant needs and troubleshooting.
· Respond to parents' concerns promptly.
· Address incidents in a timely manner.
· Ensure ongoing compliance with record-keeping.
· Engage participants in interactive and therapeutic recreation activities, turning each day into an exciting experience.
· Provide hands-on direct support and guidance to program participants under the supportive supervision of the Program Director.
· Implement program plans that inspire and empower our participants.
· Facilitate daily activities, ensuring every moment is filled with fun and meaningful engagement.
· Prioritize safety and quality assurance, ensuring the well-being of our participants.
· Identify and celebrate the unique strengths, skills, and interests of each individual.
· Assist participants in gaining independence and achieving their dreams and goals, fostering personal growth and self-confidence.
· Perform additional tasks as directed by the supervisor.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds as part of regular job duties.
- Ability to perform physical tasks such as standing, walking, bending, and lifting for extended periods as required by the role.
