What are the responsibilities and job description for the Field Technician position at Sparklight?
Sparklight's Field Technicians keep their communities connected to what matters most. As a Field Technician, you will be working with a team to install new customer's services, troubleshoot when things aren't working right, and fixing the equipment in the field to make sure our services remain at top quality!
What You'll Do:
- Performing the installation of customer service drops or outlets.
- Using electronic test equipment and online diagnostic tools to troubleshoot customer service drops or outlets, diagnose and repair reception performance issues, and resolving all problems from the customer-owned equipment to the output of the first distribution amplifier.
- Terminating cable, data and telephony services.
- Assuring proper upstream and downstream signal levels at each termination on the customer’s premises.
- A customer is moving, no problem! We relocate customer service drops or outlets .
- Monitoring and recording incidences of system and drop leakage.
- Performing after-hours network stand-by, troubleshooting and repair.
- Operating and maintaining vehicle, tools, test equipment and other company owned equipment.
- Educating customers as to the proper operation of all services, equipment, and home terminal units (HTU’s) and customer owned equipment.
- Seeking the opportunity to initiate the sale of new cable services, or upgrading of existing services and additional outlets.
- Collecting payments and obtains appropriate customer acknowledgements in accordance with Sparklight cash handling policies via electronic work order and routing system (WFM) and other methods as required.

What You'll Need:
Education and/or Experience:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Successful completion of the Field Technician training course at the Sparklight Technical Training Center is required within 9 months of employment.
Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to use RF, digital and Volt-Ohm meters and other related equipment to interpret data and use information to solve problems and determine optimal signal routing.
- This position requires the ability to work a variable schedule in a variety of weather conditions.
- Ability to lift 100 pound ladder.
- This position will require occasional travel.
- Valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
