Material Manager

Job Title: Material Manager
Location: Muskegon, MI (Onsite)
Salary: $60,000 - $85,000 per year

Position Summary:
The Material Manager will oversee and optimize material planning, procurement, inventory control, and supply chain processes. This role is critical to ensuring the efficient and cost-effective flow of materials required for production while maintaining high standards of quality and timeliness. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in materials management within the automobile industry.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement material planning strategies to ensure production schedules are met.

• Collaborate with procurement, production, and logistics teams to streamline supply chain operations.

• Monitor inventory levels and establish effective inventory control systems to reduce waste and optimize costs.

• Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers to ensure timely delivery and quality of materials.

• Analyze material usage and forecast requirements to prevent production delays.

• Ensure compliance with company policies, industry standards, and safety regulations.

• Lead and mentor the materials team to achieve departmental and organizational goals.

Technical Skills & Experience:

• Proficiency in ERP systems (preferably Global Shop Solutions).

• Experience with supply chain planning (lead times, safety stock, max/min settings, APS).

• Prior experience in a manufacturing environment.

• Automotive or defense industry knowledge (Tier 1 supplier standards).

• Expertise in inventory management, including counting, month-end routines, and maintaining accuracy.

• Ability to set up and maintain part numbers, BOMs, routers, and supply chain records.

• Strong skills in supplier evaluation, selection, and relationship building.

• Experience negotiating terms, delivery requirements, and pricing with suppliers.

• Capability to manage supplier KPIs and performance scoring.
