EHS Manager Job Description
Role Summary:
The Manager of Environment, Health and Safety will report directly to the Director of Security/Facilities/EHS and supervise the EHS Supervisor. This leader is responsible for supporting all employees and operations at the Sparton Facility and assist as needed on one or more of Sparton’s subsidiaries. This position provides deep subject matter expertise to all operations on-site. This leader works closely with site operations teams in the implementation of EHS programs and strategies to manage, mitigate and, whenever possible, eliminate environmental, health and safety risks to Sparton employees, facilities, products, and community in which the company operates.
Responsibilities:
Education and Mentorship-10%
- Manages, develops, and mentors EHS staff.
- Educates and coaches management teams at Sparton on their EHS roles and responsibilities.
EHS Leadership and Consulting-30%
- Drives implementation of the EHS strategy at Sparton to mitigate risk to people, property, community and brand.
- Partners with operations leaders, functional leaders, and EHS staff to drive continual EHS improvement.
- Ensure critical EHS information is communicated across Sparton.
- Provides leadership, support, and subject matter expertise for events taking place in the region (e.g., agency visits, natural disasters, significant incidents, etc.).
Hazard Recognition, Evaluation and Control / Regulatory Compliance-30%
- Assists in the management of operation-specific EHS risk assessments and the development of risk mitigation plans.
- Partners with leaders to ensure the Sparton EHS management system, standards, policies and procedures are implemented.
- Analyzes key EHS measures to assist operations build continual improvement plans.
- Assists leaders in identifying budgetary needs to address risk reduction and compliance assurance.
- Ensures key EHS performance metrics are accurately reported and communicated.
- Assists with the response to regulatory agency inquiries and reporting obligations.
- Participates in EHS assessments and audits.
- Provides EHS subject matter expertise to leaders within the operation.
- Provides technical assistance and guidance in all EHS matters, including ergonomics, industrial hygiene, safety, environmental and occupational health processes.
Workers’ Compensation, Security Crisis Management, and Business Resiliency-30%
- Leads the overall investigation, notification, and case management for workers’ compensation claims at Sparton.
- Serves as the primary EHS point of contact for workers’ compensation third party administrator(s).
- Provides support in the development of robust business resiliency plans.
- Partners with security resources to mitigate risk.
- Demonstrates EHS leadership during business continuity situations.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent experience in a related field. Advanced degree and professional certification (CSP, CIH, CHMM, etc.) a plus.
- Experience managing EHS and leading EHS teams.
- EHS experience in Manufacturing, preferred.
- U.S. Citizenship
- Proven history as a valued, pragmatic, and trusted EHS Professional.
- Familiarity, understanding and experience in EHS Management Systems and their successful implementation.
- Substantive knowledge of regulations and guidance promulgated by Federal OSHA and EPA (FDEP) regulations relating to CWA/CAA/EPCRA/RCRA, DOT including IATA/IMDG, Florida DOH, and workers’ compensation requirements preferred.
- Proven experience implementing effective company-wide EHS programs.
- Technical ability to work, collaborate and negotiate with government officials, consultants, and other third-party stakeholders.
- Collaborative leadership skills to achieve desired results in a highly matrixed work environment.
- Fosters trust, confidence, and followership across Sparton.
- Self-directed, and able to work productively on multiple initiatives simultaneously.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills and not be afraid of rolling up the sleeves to deliver practical solutions.
- Ability to communicate and sell value-added solutions to operations leadership clearly and succinctly.
- Must have excellent written and verbal communications skills.
- Must be creative in developing cost-effective, sensible solutions that deliver results.
- Ability to travel up to 10%
