Spay Neuter Veterinary Services, LLC, the veterinary service provider for the non-profit, Alabama Spay/Neuter Clinic, Inc, located at 2721 Crestwood Blvd in Irondale, AL is looking to hire a pet lover to care for our surgical patients. Paste this video link in your browser to learn more about us! https://youtu.be/F74KHOMf6pM

About The Practice: Our clinic offers spay/neuter surgeries to shelter animals, rescues, and targets individuals who cannot afford to have their pets sterilized elsewhere. We are NOT a traditional veterinary practice but still offer top-notch care! Our mission is to reduce the pet over-population problem in the Birmingham metro area and beyond and therefore decrease shelter euthanasia and increase pet adoption.

This is a fast-paced environment focused on providing high quality, high volume spay and neuter surgeries. Our veterinary team performed over 17,000 surgeries in 2022. The ideal candidate will work well on a team as well as take the initiative to complete tasks as an individual. We look for easy-going, low-drama folks, who maintain a positive attitude and have a sense of humor. This is an on-the-move kind of job, no time to stand around and be idle, we are busy the entire day. The ideal candidate will be timely, reliable, courteous and respectful to team members, hard-working, detail-oriented, dress professionally (scrubs), an excellent communicator, and easy-going. We work hard, but have fun while doing it!

Veterinary Technician Assistant: When working in this position, you are assisting the LVTs (Licensed Veterinary Technicians) with restraint during induction of surgery, shaving, and preparing patients for surgery. This job also involves lots of pee and poop. Collect blood samples, administer treatments, monitor patients. If you are not prepping for surgery, you are assisting in surgery - monitoring anesthesia, setting out packs, cleaning up bloody instruments, moving patients on and off the surgery tables and monitoring recovery. All team members also work in kennels. In kennels, you are primarily responsible for keeping all of the patients clean and dry and monitoring recovery.

Other duties to be performed include laundry, stocking and organizing supplies, and setting up the clinic for the next day. Daily intake and discharge of patients through carpool line with clean up of the facility before and after.

Experience is preferred, but not required. There will be stinky dog poop and pee and cats that are not as happy to see you as you are to see them with this job. Pets that want to share their fleas and ticks with you. Pet hair will become your new clothing accessory. We also work with feral cats in traps - it is cumbersome and smelly. Apply now!

Other job duties: Cleaning. Cleaning disgusting things. Showing grace to your team mates on a bad day. Being able to laugh at yourself when you are about to fall over from fatigue. A clean and organized work environment is a happy place to be! Cleaning up all things pet - hair, pee, poop, blood, vomit, etc. Also dusting. We love a clean practice!

Hours: Mondays 7:00 am - 4:00 pm, Tuesdays and Wednesdays 6:00 am – 4:00 pm, Thursdays 6:00 am - 5:00 pm. NO FRIDAYS, SATURDAYS OR SUNDAYS. Spend your weekends with people you love from outside of work. Some days we finish our work early and go home early - not a guarantee. Team members average about 36 hours per week.

Weekly rotation of clinic cell phone. This is a phone we answer for our clients that have concerns about their pet after surgery. Team members are paid an additional $100.00 for each week they have the phone and answer calls from 8 am to 8 pm for the week. After-hours emergencies are EXTREMELY rare, but if you get called in to assist the veterinarian you are compensated time and a half. Emergencies are usually short. Team members usually have the phone once every 6 weeks (ok, ok so the NO WEEKENDS is not entirely true as you are on call the weekend you have the phone, but it is still a pretty sweet gig).

We are closed for major holidays and are closed between Christmas and New Year’s, spend the holidays with your loved ones!

Pay: Based on experience and skill-set. If you are able to draw blood, intubate patients and place IV catheters, you are more valuable to us. Don't yet have these skills? We will teach you and raise your pay as you acquire new skills!

Benefits: Competitive wage, paid time off, health and dental insurance, and paid holidays. Wellness care for your personal pets. If you are going to veterinary technology school, make sure to tell us and ask us about tuition reimbursement! Tuition reimbursement is ONLY available for veterinary technology school.

Interested Candidates: Apply through really. If you really want to catch our attention to show us you are serious, draft a cover letter telling us a little about yourself and address it to Dr. Ferrell.

Thank you!
