Job Summary: The Rescue Center Behavior Coordinator, with guidance and direction from the Senior Behavior Manager, is responsible for behaviorally assessing animals and making recommendations, ensuring timely movement of animals out of the rescue center to the appropriate destination, provide daily enrichment to all animals, implement behavior modification protocols as needed, implement research project protocols and coordinate data collection. This position will also be responsible for behavior volunteer training and engagement including determining behavior department volunteer needs and scheduling volunteers ensuring a meaningful experience for the volunteer and SPCA of Texas.
Summary of Essential Job Tasks:
• Behaviorally assess rescue center animals and make recommendations for movement to appropriate destination.
• Coordinate, mentor and retain volunteers for enrichment and behavior modification at the rescue center.
• Work with rescue center animals alongside behavior volunteers to increase adoptability of animals.
• Train shelter animals using approved methods.
• Collect data for research projects and provide applicable reports for data tracking based on requirements of the project.
• Train and coach staff and volunteers in animal behavior, handling and enrichment.
• Update animal information and maintain individual animal records through database system and internal shelter paperwork.
• Order supplies for enrichment and behavior modification.
• Provide assistance with Pet University administrative duties, as needed.
• Perform animal behavior evaluations (BVALs).
• Work in cooperation with other SPCA of Texas departments to accomplish and further the goals of the Behavior programs.
• Protect the confidential information on customers, donors and volunteers.
• Recognize common illnesses and behavioral traits that would make an animal a less likely candidate to be moved out of the rescue center.
• Report observed health issues to ACC Supervisor or behavior issues to Senior Behavior Manager.
• Must be eligible to be a “driver” for the SPCA of Texas and must perform “driver” duties as directed by the immediate Supervisor.
• Maintain assigned equipment, supplies and vehicles in safe condition and report any problems or needed repairs to the ACC Manager.
• Represent the SPCA of Texas by providing excellent customer service and focus.
• Additional tasks assigned by the Senior Behavior Manager.
• Keep current inventory of necessary program supplies and report shortages to Senior Behavior Manager.

Applicant Information:
• Applicant must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Applicant must possess a valid Texas driver’s license and must pass the driver’s DMV background check.
Normally scheduled 5 days per week, 8 hours per day between the hours of 7am and 7pm.
