What are the responsibilities and job description for the Animal Adoptions Counselor position at SPCA Serving Erie County?
This part-time, 24 hour per week, opening will be responsible for assisting the public with the adoption of animals in the SPCA shelter by interacting with customers interested in adopting a pet, screening potential adopters, explaining organization policies and procedures, and providing general information to the public in person and by phone. They will enter information into the shelter’s computer database, collection of adoption fees and donations, provide service in our on-site store (using a cash register, speaking with customers, and fitting dogs for collars and leashes). The successful candidate will work closely with other departments by assisting in canine evaluations, meet and greets between shelter dogs and the potential adopter’s dogs, explaining medical records, communicating medical issues, and scheduling appointments. They will engage and guide guests through the adoption process, while on the adoption floor, assist guests in the selection of their pet and facilitate meet and greets. They will also assist the Offsite Adoption Coordinator with completing adoption paperwork and transporting animals to offsite locations and events as well as assisting volunteers helping with adoptions, on-site store as well as feline and canine behavior volunteers.
This dynamic individual will collaboratively perform duties with great attention to detail and can effectively multi-task. They should possess basic computer skills and be adaptable to change while working in a fast-paced environment. This individual will maintain a neat and tidy workplace by assisting in removing clutter, wiping down surfaces, sweeping and mopping.
