Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Oral Surgery Assistant to join our high performing team, floating between our offices in Tonawanda and Lockport. The ideal candidate will play a vital role in providing high-quality care to our patients, working collaboratively with the surgeon and other healthcare professionals. This position requires a strong understanding of dental terminology, dental records, charts, and accurate documentation. Exceptional hand-eye coordination.
Requires excellent verbal and written communication skills, and a sincere commitment to patient care. Professional demeanor and appearance. BLS certification. A solid understanding of how to use surgical equipment, instruments, and materials as well as solid understanding of surgical techniques, chairside responsibilities, and health and safety protocols. Great organizational and time management skills. Proficient computer skills.
* Dental Anesthesia Assistant National Certification Examination (DAANCE) REQUIRED by end of second anniversary date of hire with recertification every five years.
Duties
- Seating patients and charting medical history and any known allergies.
- Obtaining vital signs.
- Operating X-Ray and 3D scanning equipment.
- Operating Trios scanning equipment.
- Preparing and sterilizing surgical instruments, materials and equipment in accordance with infection control and biohazard protocols.
- Ensuring that instruments and equipment are effectively maintained.
- Preparing patients for surgery and monitoring vital signs during procedures.
- Assisting the oral surgeon with all chairside procedures including operatory setup, anesthesia administration and cleanup.
- Providing patients with preparation for procedures, treatment plans, and postoperative instructions.
- Administration of selected medications under the supervision of the doctor.
- Coordination of reference laboratory services.
- Maintaining safe conditions in patient treatment areas.
- Monitoring the stock of surgical supplies.
- Providing excellent patient care at all times.
- Maintaining general appearance, cleanliness, and organization of clinical and office areas.
- Maintaining operations by following policies and procedures and reporting needed changes.
- Performing other duties as may be requested by and coordinated by the doctor, practice manager, and site supervisors (i.e., cleaning of the offices, office projects).
Qualifications
- Associate Degree from an accredited program preferred but not required.
- A minimum of six months of dental/oral surgery experience.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $25.00 - $27.00 per hour
Expected hours: 37.5 – 40.00 per week
