SPEC Services, Inc. is a renowned firm specializing in Electrical & Control Systems engineering. We are seeking a highly motivated and energetic applicant to fill an Electrical & Control Systems Engineer position in our Southern California office.
In this role, you will apply your knowledge of electrical systems principles to:
- Prepare comprehensive engineering calculations, including short circuit, load flow, motor starting, relay coordination, and arc flash.
- Direct design staff in the preparation of construction drawing packages for medium and low voltage power systems, grounding, lighting, instrumentation, and control systems.
- Contribute to the growth and development of junior team members.
The position offers a flexible 9/80 work schedule with a hybrid work location, supporting our Fountain Valley office.
As an engineering lead on multi-discipline projects, you will be responsible for:
- Acting as an engineering lead on the electrical and control systems portion of multi-discipline projects.
- Preparing data sheets and specifications for electrical equipment, including power distribution centers, switchgear, transformers, motor control centers, variable frequency drives, starters, control panels, and more.
- Performing electrical calculations using ETAP or SKM software.
- Participating in startup, performance testing, and troubleshooting.
- Maintaining effective communication and relationships with project team members and clients.
You will also be responsible for:
- Preparing and issuing RFQs, evaluating vendor quotations, clarifications, technical bid analysis, and more.
- Reviewing vendor documents, drawings, datasheets, specifications, and calculations.
- Guiding permitting through local agencies, interfacing with clients and construction contractors, performing field investigations, and structural observations.
- Mentoring and training junior team members.
We prefer candidates with working knowledge of instrumentation, programmable logic controllers (PLC), and distributed control systems (DCS). Knowledge of electrical engineering and design, NEC and API 500, and working electrical construction experience are required.
Candidates must have a Bachelor's Degree (or higher) in Electrical Engineering and ~6 years of designing projects involving medium and low voltage power systems, grounding, lighting, instrumentation, and control systems. Engineering consulting experience is preferred, and a California Electrical Professional Engineer license is strongly preferred.
