What are the responsibilities and job description for the Nanny for 4-yo with special needs position at Special Needs Nanny Search?
Looking for a part-time (approx. 25 hours per week) live-in nanny to be a part of our family and help take care of my son, a 4-year-old boy with level 2 Autism Spectrum Disorder. Competitive pay with furnished private room, a shared bath, and all utilities paid in Southwest Austin. The ideal start date would be 2nd half of April, happy to discuss an earlier start date if desired.
The child: My son is verbal (currently putting 2-3 words together) and on track to begin potty training this year. He is a sweet boy who loves music, dancing, and being in nature.
The environment: You’ll be living with only two of us (me, a single mom, and my son) and provided with a furnished private room and shared bath (mostly private, but my son will take baths in that bathroom due to the set-up). Maid service twice a month. All utilities paid. We are a quiet household and maintain a very regular schedule of sleeping early and waking early. I work from home. Our home is in a safe and quiet neighborhood, close to daily necessities such as grocery stores, gyms, the library, parks/nature. Zip code 78749 (approx. 20 mins to UT, 8 mins to St Augustine University).
The ideal candidate: A student in Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, or Behavioral Therapy program, someone who has experience as a therapist in the same fields, or someone interested in working with Autistic children or considering the pursuit of a degree/certification working with neurodivergent kids. There will be many opportunities for you to learn from his team of therapists.
Responsibilities:
· Pick up and drop off at school
· Support him with his daily routines (school, potty, meals, bath time)
· Coordinate with therapists and provide support to them during sessions as needed
· Play and engage with him
· Keep him safe and clean
· Keep up with and follow strategies and tactics taught by the therapists for consistent language and behavior around him
· Light cooking and cleaning (dishes, cleaning up after my son, his laundry and meals)
· Occasionally I might ask for help on random things around the house
· When I am away, manage the house and be my son’s sole caretaker (expected 2-4 times per year, 2-5 days at a time. You will receive additional compensation for hours worked past the initial 25 when I travel or have other things going on requiring more help.)
Qualifications:
· A responsible, reliable, loving, patient, kind, and fun individual
· Min 2 years experience working with children between 2-4 years of age
· A moderate amount of experience with neurodivergent kids (from taking care of family members, or through previous work experience)
· Hold a valid DL with clean driving record and reliable transportation
· Clean background – must pass background check
· Your schedule allows the ~25 hours per week based on the times needed (we will arrange a schedule that fits in the hours of M-F 7-8:30am, 1:30-5:30pm and a few hours on the weekends)
· The ability to manage the house and be the only caretaker for my son when I am out of town
· Can commit to this job for a minimum of one year
