Temporary for the remainder of the 2024-2025 school year

 

Temporary Family Engagement Specialist (Non-Rep Assignment)

Housed at the WV Innovation Center 

 

Primary Responsibility:    Support our qualifying families through building intentional relationships. This responsibility ranges from recruiting, record keeping, and making connections with students and their families. The specialist will support the Family Engagement Coordinator and State and Federal Programs Director in working on routine clerical duties, material preparation for family nights, and other non-instructional responsibilities. This individual will plan and implement comprehensive child development services for children and families enrolled in the migrant, TBIP and/or Title I programs, providing a range of family support and advocacy services. Conduct child development screening and assessments. Conduct weekly home visits and manage and participate in Play and Learn groups. Develop Family Goal Action Plans and implement parent education activities, participate in team meetings to implement goal-oriented family plans. Provide support and mentoring to other team members. 

        

Directly Responsible To  Family Engagement Coordinator and State and Federal Programs Director.

 

Job Requirements:  Minimum Qualifications

  • MUST have a High School Diploma or GED 
  • Bilingual required (English/Spanish)
  • Secondary Degree prefered 

 

Home Visiting:

  • Develop a regular schedule of home visits and home-based activities to meet standards.
  • Prepare and implement lesson plans based on each child’s developmental needs and standards.
  • Interact positively with children to support their learning and meet their social-emotional development.
  • Develop and maintain a relationship with children and families.
  • Assist parents to promote feelings of security and trust with their infants and toddlers. 
  • Conduct screenings in all developmental areas and refer to early intervention services and other appropriate community services,
  • Maintain ongoing written documentation of observations/assessments of individual children.
  • Identify family strengths and interests. 

Family and Parent Involvement:

  • Assist with large scale district events.
  • Encourage and support families in working towards goals that have been collaboratively developed.
  • Participate in planning and attending family engagement team meetings and events throughout the year.
  • Be actively aware of existing and new community resources providing child and family services.
  • Provide support and appropriate assistance to help families access needed services.

  • Excellent presentation and communication skills: verbal, written, and interpersonal
  • Proficient computer skills essential
  • Flexibility with work hours in order to meet the needs of the Department including early mornings and evenings
  • Understand, speak, write, and read in English and Spanish.
  • Outgoing, self-driven, and innovating

Preferred Qualification

  • Knowledge and/or experience in understanding the needs of families experiencing barriers to educational services.

Working Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting (able to lift 50 pounds and assist in lifting over 50 pounds), carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity.  Generally, the job requires 34% sitting, 33% walking, and 33% standing.  The job is performed in a generally hazard-free environment and in a clean atmosphere.
