The Opportunity
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Direct Support Professional (DSP) to provide support and assistance to individuals with developmental disabilities, mental health conditions, or physical challenges. As a DSP, you will play a vital role in helping individuals achieve their goals, maintain independence, and enhance their quality of life. Essential Duties
Individualized Support:
- Assist individuals in their daily living activities, including personal care, meal preparation, and household tasks.
- Support individuals in achieving their personal goals and promoting independence.
- Provide transportation and accompany individuals to appointments, activities, and community outings.
- Teach and support individuals in developing life skills, such as communication, money management, and social interactions.
- Encourage participation in recreational and educational activities.
- Advocate for the rights and needs of individuals, ensuring they are treated with respect and dignity.
- Empower individuals to make choices and take an active role in their own lives.
- Monitor and support individuals' physical and emotional well-being.
- Administer medications and follow care plans as directed.
- Respond appropriately to emergencies and follow safety protocols.
- Maintain accurate records of services provided, progress notes, and any changes in an individual’s condition.
- Communicate effectively with team members, families, and other professionals.
- Work collaboratively with other staff, supervisors, and healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive care.
- Attend training sessions and staff meetings to enhance skills and knowledge.
The Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (required).
- Article 9 Certification
- Previous experience in caregiving or working with individuals with disabilities (preferred but not required).
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation (required for some positions).
- Ability to pass a background check and any required certifications.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Patience, empathy, and a commitment to supporting individuals with diverse needs.
