A material handler moves, stores, and distributes materials and products for a business. Their responsibilities include:
- Receiving and unloading: Using equipment like forklifts or pallet jacks to receive and unload freight, and checking for damaged goods
- Transporting: Moving materials to and from production, storage, loading docks, and delivery trucks
- Maintaining inventory: Recording inventory data, identifying and labeling materials, and reporting shortages
- Packing and shipping: Preparing finished stock for shipment, including identifying, pulling, packing, crating, loading, and securing the product
- Waste disposal: Disposing of waste and transport dunnage
