Position Summary

Design, execute, and oversee safety and environmental initiatives aimed at preventing or rectifying unsafe working and environmental conditions. Lead and collaborate with interdepartmental teams to establish and enforce policies, training programs, metrics, assessments, and hazard controls, ensuring compliance with occupational safety regulations. Offer technical expertise in operations and management to assess risks and address health and safety issues efficiently. Engage in incident investigations, conduct safety audits, facilitate training sessions, and liaise with external regulatory bodies.


Primary Responsibilities

Safety Program Development and Implementation

  • Collaborate with the operations team to develop and enforce safety programs and policies that ensure a compliant, hazard-free workplace in alignment with OSHA regulations.
  • Provide guidance and support to unit manufacturing supervisors in their safety initiatives.
  • Perform risk assessments on machinery and hazard evaluations, implementing effective controls to minimize risks.
  • Develop and implement programs to prevent incidents, near misses, and injuries, distributing corrective actions.
  • Sign off on equipment safety to ensure all machinery meets safety standards.


Incident Investigation and Analysis

  • Lead investigations to identify the root causes of incidents, near misses, and injuries.
  • Collect, analyze, and report incident data related to occupational illnesses and accidents, providing insights to business leaders.


Safety Audits and Compliance

  • Conduct safety audits of facilities, work areas, and equipment to ensure compliance and continuous improvement.
  • Develop and maintain environmental health programs to ensure compliance with EPA regulations and environmental permit requirements.
  • Inspect machinery to ensure it meets safety standards.
  • Perform safety checks on electrical systems to ensure they are functioning correctly and safely.
  • Monitor compliance with OSHA regulations to ensure the workplace adheres to all safety guidelines.


Training and Development

  • Develop, deliver, and maintain records for safety training programs, including forklifts, LOTO, fall protection, fire prevention, building evacuations, CPR and first aid, reasonable suspicion drug and alcohol testing, and hazardous waste handling.
  • Assess employee safety training and certification requirements, sourcing or developing appropriate materials and courses.


Budget and Resource Management

  • Oversee and manage the annual safety budget to support safety initiatives and compliance efforts.
  • Work closely with leadership, sourcing teams, and suppliers to oversee and maintain adequate inventories of safety equipment and PPE.


Committee Leadership and External Liaison

  • Lead monthly safety committee meetings and serve as the primary liaison for external organizations such as fire departments and emergency services.



Environmental Responsibility

  • Support waste reduction, recycling initiatives, and sustainability programs to enhance environmental responsibility.

Required Experience

EHS Management Experience:

  • 3 years managing an EHS program, ideally in a fast-paced industrial manufacturing environment, with experience in key safety functions.


Regulatory Knowledge:

  • Familiarity with ANSI workplace safety standards preferred, with a strong understanding of local, state, and federal environmental and occupational safety regulations.


Policy & Documentation Expertise:

  • Skilled in writing and editing safety policies, programs, and evacuation maps.
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe Photoshop, with experience managing digital safety systems.


Hazard Recognition & Mitigation:

  • Proactively identify workplace hazards and collaborate with leadership to implement corrective actions.
  • Empowered to exercise STOP WORK authority in critical safety situations.



Certifications:

  • CSP (Certified Safety Professional) or ASP (Associate Safety Professional) certification preferred.


Requisite Skills

Technical Skills:

  • Knowledge of machine safety features.
  • Understanding of electrical wattage and system requirements.
  • Ability to assess arc distances and electrical configurations.
  • Understanding of electrical systems and machine safety.
  • Familiarity with factory environments, comfortable working in a dirty factory environment with metal shards and coolant, as opposed to clean room or lab settings.
  • Risk assessment in manufacturing settings.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Environmental Health & Safety, or a related field a plus but is not required
