Role Description
Specialty Orthopedic Group is seeking a Patient Account Specialist to join the Billing Team. The Patient Accounts Specialist will be responsible for effectively managing all aspects of patients accounts in a healthcare setting. This position is responsible for service calls from patients and calling patients regarding outstanding statement balances and serves as a liaison between clinics and the central business office and payors. This role initiates telephone contact and answers all calls pertaining to accounts receivables. It will also require speaking with Health Insurance representatives and patients directly in order to quickly and accurately resolve any issues on accounts.
Job Responsibilities
- Keys updated insurance information and patient information such as bad addresses into the computer. Generates appropriate paperwork, including itemized statements and receipts when requested.
- Provides service estimates and handles collection of payments and setting up payment plans for physician services.
- Works with Collection Agencies regarding patient payments, bad debt reports, bankruptcy.
- Posts patient payments timely and accurately to accounts.
- Responds timely and appropriately to all inquiries received from patients either by telephone or written request.
- Completes and files all necessary paperwork for services rendered, i.e., bankruptcy, deceased patients, billing records requests, etc.
- Resolves returned statements, i.e. bad address, patient moved, etc.
- Generates and works accounts reports, i.e. small balance write-offs, statement holds, etc.
- Adheres to all safety policies and procedures in performing job duties and responsibilities while supporting a culture of high quality and great customer service.
- Provides exemplary customer service and works to resolve patient questions and complaints.
- Regularly demonstrates ability to deal with patients in a professional manner regarding sensitive financial matters and recapture unpaid balances.
- Performs other duties that may be necessary or in the best interest of Specialty Orthopedic Group.
Qualifications
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency in relevant software applications
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
- Attention to detail and accuracy in data entry
- Experience in patient account management or related fields
- Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality
- Problem-solving skills and a customer-focused mindset
