Specter Aerospace is seeking a mid-career manufacturing engineer in support of expanding its prototyping and manufacturing capabilities for hypersonic flight test vehicles. A successful candidate will have experience working in fast paced prototyping environments, significant direct subtractive manufacturing experience, CAD/CAM skills, and machining of difficult materials and geometries. They will have the opportunity to work directly on flight hardware and help influence the manufacturing path of novel low-cost hypersonic systems.
Job Description
We're seeking an experienced engineer in CNC machining to:
- Prototype, produce, and inspect components for hypersonic flight vehicles and advanced combustion technologies
- Program, set up, and operate multiple subtractive manufacturing equipment
- Conduct in-process and final inspections of components, creating inspection plans based on design requirements
- Coordinate with and advise project managers on scope, producibility, and deliverables
- Manage part priority and flow across multiple programs
- Work with design engineers to ensure parts are manufacturable
- Design and build fixtures, tooling, etc. to efficiently and accurately prototype and incrementally improve hypersonic engine and vehicle components
- Assist with equipment maintenance, lab organization, and mechanical tasks as needed
- Perform supplemental manufacturing duties (welding, grinding, deburring, part cleaning)
Minimum Job Requirements
· BS in Mechanical Engineer, Manufacturing Engineering, or similar levels of vocational and applied experience.
· 3 years working with CNC machine tools (milling and turning) in a Job Shop or prototyping environment
· Proficiency in manipulating CAD models, creating/interpreting drawings, GD&T, and CAD/CAM software
· Expert knowledge in various tooling types and their uses
· Familiarity with equipment maintenance procedures
· Understanding of adjacent manufacturing processes (casting, forming, forging, additive, surface improvement, coatings, etc.)
· Comfort with project autonomy and fast-paced work environments
· Experience mentoring or training others in manufacturing & machining principles
· Willing to work on defense and defense-adjacent projects
· Ability to obtain a SECRET level security clearance (U.S. Citizenship required)
Desired Skills
· Proficiency in Siemens NX CAD/CAM
· Familiarity with Haas control
· Multiaxis, multispindle machining experience
· Experience with welding, brazing, and other joining techniques
· Proficiency in Solidworks CAD / HSMWorks CAM
· Experience with inspection planning and execution
· Knowledge of Design for Manufacturing (DfM) and Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM) principles
· Active U.S. SECRET level security clearance
