SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

This position provides the mechanical engineering function within the engineering department. In general, work is to be performed in support of ‘Spectral Systems’, a division of Omega Optical Holdings. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to complete all areas outlined for this position in a satisfactory manner.

SPECIFIC DUTIES, ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

PRIMARY TASKS TO BE PERFORMED:

· Provides our customers with outstanding value, service and product quality.

· Supports a comprehensive system for managing designs and drawings for Spectral Systems. The maintenance will include development, deployment, monitoring, evaluation and documentation for associated equipment, tools, suppliers, files and programs. 

· Works with sales, manufacturing, purchasing, quality control and department personnel to assure processes and systems function at a level that is capable of meeting or exceeding the production quality, value and service expectations of our customers.

· Maintains tooling, fixtures and equipment per scheduled requirements and the Engineering Manager’s directives.

· Supports documentation such as data collection, travelers, WIP, and product yield information.

· Works with engineering, manufacturing, purchasing, quality control, sales and other project members to effectively and efficiently transfer new products or processes from concept into production including but not limited to creating work instructions, creating tooling drawing and setting up inspection plans.

· Identifies tooling and equipment needs and makes recommendations to the Engineering Manager for their purchase or modification.

· Works with engineering, manufacturing, quality control, purchasing, sales and production personnel to integrate new or modified equipment, tooling, procedures, safety requirements and provide training as required.

· Reports in detail to the Sr Engineering Manager progress towards individual assignments and projects. Also, reports progress towards department, individual goals and any departmental issue.

SECONDARY TASKS TO BE PERFORMED:

· Helps to benchmark and develop performance standards as well as monitor progress towards company quality goals.

· Support company values and work ethics.

· Perform tasks as assigned by the Sr Engineering Manager in a timely and professional manner.

· Support other departments as required in a timely and professional manner.

· Support as needed towards lean manufacturing events, root cause analysis, preventative action, customer returns, non-conformances and other quality events.

· Work and communicate openly with all Spectral Systems’ employees to maintain and continually improve the quality, delivery times and costs of fabricated product.

· Maintain a safe work environment and enforce all safety protocols.

· Report to the Sr Engineering Manager and Security Officer all security breaches.

· Report to the Sr Engineering Manager and Safety Officer any observed employee accidents or person injury.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Training: Required: Four-year degree in Mechanical Engineering from a certified college or university. 

Experience: 

Required: 10 years of experience as a mechanical engineer, preferred experience with a company that fabricates or coats optics and/or optical components. 

Knowledge/Skills: Ability to work within a team environment

Ability to work with little supervision towards company goals

Experience and knowledge in the use of SolidWorks or similar drawing program

Skilled in forming spreadsheets for data entry and capable of data analysis through   statistical methodologies 

Ability to communicate to all levels of the organization

Mechanically inclined with a history of strong hands-on experience

 

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

BODY POSITIONS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand for  prolonged periods of time. The individual must also have the ability to maneuver around the plant and climb  stairs.

BODY MOVEMENTS: The employee must have a full range of body movements including use of hands to finger,  handle, or feel objects, computer equipment and peripherals; and bending, reaching and crouching. 

BODY SENSES: Must have command of these senses: sight, hearing, touch and smell (if applicable). Specific  vision abilities required include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. These vision  requirements in each area must be sufficient to shift in focus from computer screens to close forms.

STRENGTH: Must frequently lift and carry 20 pounds and occasionally lift 50 pounds.

· Seeks guidance and direction, as necessary, for performance of duties.

· Demonstrates good judgment in investigating and solving problems.

· Respects the confidentiality of company, customer and personnel information

· Participates in management meetings, as required

· Does not abuse or take advantage of personal days off or office hours

· Provides proper notification of absence from work

· All work is to be performed per lean manufacturing and six-sigma concepts with emphasis on teamwork and cooperation.

· All documentation shall be accurate and current, and recorded on appropriate company forms provided for the purpose.

· All work will be performed within governmental laws.

· All work will be performed within environmental safety in mind.

· Employee will work within the guidelines of the latest revisions of the employee safety handbook.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: 

This position will be working primarily indoors in a climate-controlled, smoke-free environment, but also requires the employee to be moving through other areas on a regular basis. From this movement, the employee will encounter varying temperatures from these areas. Normal auto and air travel hazards will apply. Travel will be in all types of weather including heavy rain and below freezing temperatures with snow conditions possible. 

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to low.
