Overview
Responsible for converting medical codes into billable claims. You will be responsible
for ensuring that the clinic receives all allowable reimbursement for the services we
provide. In addition to generating and submitting healthcare claims to insurance
companies, you will also need track claims through payer review, post payments,
balance accounts, and send invoices to patients when necessary.
The organization depends on accurate and timely claim submissions, which will require
a knowledgeable medical biller who can navigate the reimbursement system quickly
and effectively.
Familiarity with therapy codes is preferrable but not a requirement. This is a part-time
position, averaging 20 hours per week. The number of hours per week may vary
according to volume of services. Incentives will be offered based on productivity and
claim reimbursement rates.
Responsibilities
- Accurately code medical procedures and diagnoses using ICD-10 and DRG coding systems.
- Prepare and submit claims to insurance companies for reimbursement.
- Review patient records to ensure all necessary information is included for billing purposes.
- Follow up on unpaid claims and manage collections for outstanding accounts.
- Communicate with healthcare providers to clarify any discrepancies in medical records or billing information.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of changes in medical billing regulations and coding standards.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant laws and regulations related to medical billing practices.
Experience
- Proven experience in medical billing or coding within a healthcare setting is preferred.
- Familiarity with medical terminology, coding systems, and insurance processes is essential.
- Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems and medical office software is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently while managing multiple tasks effectively.
- Excellent communication skills to interact with patients, healthcare providers, and insurance representatives.
