Training will be completed on dayshift (8am-4pm) and evening shift (4pm-12am) throughout the training period (3-6 months). Shift is subject to change each January due to shift bids. After training, will be on call for 2 weeks out of every 7 weeks.
Hourly wage is $19.99/hr during training (3-6 months) and you will received a raise upon completion of training/probationary period of 6 months. After probation hourly wage is $20.99/hr.
Public Safety Telecommunicators are the lifeline for residents and first responders. Telecommunicators must possess the ability to work on multiple calls at one time while still handling all calls proficiently.
An Emergency Telecommunicator’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Receive and answer emergency and non-emergency calls
- Answer multiple radio frequencies for Law enforcement
- Record all calls in the Computer Aided Dispatch system
- Dispatch calls appropriately depending upon the call type
- Assess situations and prioritize calls
- Use multi-line phone system
- Possess strong communication skills
- Possess strong multi-tasking skills
- Possess strong typing skills (30 WPM preferred)
- Maintain composure during stressful situations
- Read maps (GIS and paper) and have knowledge of local geography
- Give proper directions to first responders
- Dispatch all law enforcement officers, medical services, and fire departments to calls
- Understand and communicate the wants/needs of responders
- Keep a record of all response times for law enforcement, fire and medical calls
- Maintain multiple information databases for cases, wreckers, accidents, arrest warrants, and national database searches
- Maintain arrest warrant files
- Control access to confidential documents and information
- Prioritize calls received and assess for proper response necessary
- Access the License Plate Reader system when necessary
- Access local school cameras when requested, ensure cameras are working properly and connected
- Activate the Emergency Weather Sirens for St. Meinrad, Rockport and Gentryville
- Perform all communication duties properly, in a timely manner, while also maintaining national standards regarding call handling/dispatching
- Complete Continuing Education each year and maintain certifications including
- Emergency Medical Dispatch Certification
- Fire Safety Dispatch Certification
- Law Enforcement Dispatch Certification
- Basic Life Support CPR and AED Certification
- Telephone CPR
- NCIC / IDACS Certification
- FEMA NIMS ICS-100, ICS-200, IS-700 and IS-800
- Public Safety Telecommunicator 40-hour course
- Meet/exceed all certification and training requirements mandated by Indiana Senate Bill 158
