Overview:
The Spencer County Sheriff's Office is seeking dedicated individuals to join our team as Sheriff's Deputies. As a Deputy Sheriff, you will play a vital role in maintaining law and order, ensuring public safety, and upholding the principles of justice in Spencer County. Key Responsibilities:
Patrol and Enforcement: Conduct routine patrols of assigned areas to prevent and detect criminal activities. Respond promptly to emergency calls and incidents, including accidents, disturbances, and criminal acts.
Investigation: Conduct thorough investigations of crimes, accidents, and incidents. Gather evidence, interview witnesses, and prepare detailed reports for use in court proceedings.
Community Engagement: Build positive relationships with community members through outreach programs, public events, and community policing initiatives. Foster trust and cooperation between law enforcement and the community.
Traffic Control: Enforce traffic laws, monitor roadways, and respond to traffic accidents. Ensure safe and orderly traffic flow.
Arrest and Detainment: Apprehend individuals suspected of committing crimes, following established protocols and legal procedures. Safely transport and detain suspects as necessary.
Court Appearance: Testify in court as a witness, presenting evidence and providing accurate testimony. Collaborate with prosecutors and defense attorneys to ensure fair legal proceedings.
Emergency Response: Assist in responding to natural disasters, emergencies, and other crisis situations. Provide assistance to other law enforcement agencies and emergency services when required.
Training and Development: Attend and participate in ongoing training, workshops, and professional development programs to stay current with law enforcement practices, procedures, and technologies.
Equipment Maintenance: Maintain and care for departmental equipment, vehicles, and firearms to ensure their proper functionality.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Successful completion of a certified police academy program.
- Possession of a valid driver's license.
- Ability to pass ILEA exit standards (for non-lateral).
- Good moral character and ethical conduct.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Sound judgment and decision-making abilities.
- Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays.
- Prior law enforcement experience is a plus.
