Managing Director – Renewable Energy Finance

The Role
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Managing Director to lead the execution of complex financing and deal structures, including transactions at the project, portfolio, and corporate levels. This includes working across debt, tax equity, cash equity, and M&A transactions, ensuring the organization’s continued leadership in the renewable energy sector.
As a Managing Director, you will take on a critical leadership role within a lean, fast-paced team, directly influencing strategic decisions, fostering industry relationships, and driving the overall success of high-impact projects. This is an opportunity to further develop your expertise in clean energy while managing and mentoring junior professionals.
This role will be based in San Francisco, CA office, with a hybrid in-office/work-from-home schedule.
Responsibilities
- Take ownership of all financial modeling for major project financing transactions, from community solar portfolios to large-scale solar and storage projects.
- Serve as the lead negotiator with external counterparties on financing transactions, ensuring the best possible terms for the organization.
- Develop and foster new relationships with key financing parties across tax equity, debt, and cash equity markets, representing the company at conferences and within critical transactions.
- Collaborate with other senior leaders to refine market entry, power marketing, and financing strategies for an expanding project pipeline.
- Lead the creation and presentation of materials for internal and external stakeholders, including the Investment Committee, Board of Directors, and financing parties.
- Oversee internal and external project diligence workstreams and manage transaction timelines to ensure timely execution.
- Provide leadership and mentorship to junior team members, helping to develop their professional skills while driving operational excellence.
- Work alongside Capital Markets & M&A teams to evaluate and execute opportunities for new corporate financings and project M&A.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to manage complex issues around tax, accounting, financing, structuring, development, and legal considerations affecting solar and battery storage transactions.
Desired Qualifications and Experience
- BA/BS degree required; MBA or other relevant graduate degrees preferred.
- 10 years of finance experience, with a minimum of 7 years in the renewable energy sector.
- Extensive, demonstrable experience with tax equity structures utilized within the solar industry.
- Proven expertise in credit analysis, financial modeling, and quantitative analysis.
- Strong initiative, accountability, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively across functions and offices, and to manage cross-functional teams.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills (verbal and written), with the ability to defend positions and decisions confidently.
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines.

Salary : $220,000 - $265,000
