The Substance Use Counselor will primarily service adult clients and may have the opportunity to work with adolescent clients, if additional educational and supervision requirements have been completed.

The Substance Use Counselor will primarily service adult clients and may have the opportunity to work with adolescent clients, if additional educational and supervision requirements have been completed.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- None
- Document all services provided in the Electronic Medical Record based on the requirements of Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics and Minnesota Statute 245G including comprehensive substance use assessments, integrated treatment plans, progress notes, chart notes, treatment coordination and referrals, and discharge summaries.
- Meet with the client’s family and/or significant others as appropriate. Educate and offer suggestions for how they best can support the client’s recovery program.
- Facilitate evidence based, trauma informed, and person-centered services in groups and individual sessions.
- Attend weekly supervision with the Treatment Director and substance use and recovery staff meetings.
- Coordinate and facilitate communication for the client with attorneys, probation officers, mental health providers, etc.
- Consistently demonstrate clinical competence and ethical professionalism.
- Be adequately trained in evidenced based interventions to address and substance use.
- Ability to work independently and with teams.
- Must be cleared by an acceptable criminal background check based on Spero and Department of Human Services and Department of Education guidelines.
- Ability to maintain professional standards through verbal and written communication.
- Effectively communicate with people inside and outside the office.
- Review detailed reports and information. Use the computer for documentation.
- Bilingual preferred.
- Use office equipment including telephone, printer, copier, fax machine, etc.
- Be proficient in using computers, including but not limited to the use of internet, Microsoft office products, and web-based data programs.
- Must be a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC) or Alcohol and Drug Counselor – Trainee (ADC-T) by the Minnesota Board of Behavioral Health and Therapy.
- Preferred: Meet Minnesota State Statute 245G.18, subdivision 2, requirements for working with adolescents
- Prolonged periods sitting, listening, and observing or working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
- 2-5 years’ experience
