What are the responsibilities and job description for the Quality Control position at Spherotech Inc.?
As a global supplier of microparticle solutions, our experienced scientists manufacture high quality latex, fluorescent, paramagnetic, ferromagnetic and colored dyed microparticles. Located in Lake Forest, Illinois, we have a dedicated staff and a great work environment.
Our Quality Control Technicians execute Quality Control Procedures (QCPs) and follow standard operating procedures to analyze manufactured product. This role requires laboratory training and knowledge in lab safety to perform quality control tasks as required.
What does a typical day at Spherotech look like for this role?
- Analyzing samples using Flow Cytometer and other laboratory equipment and techniques.
- Sizing particles and beads (per milliliter determination)
- Reviewing documentation, analyzing QC samples, confirming package inspection and final product inspection
- Performing all other associated duties and assigned tasks as needed

- Able to read and interpret our technical procedures.
- Ability to write reports.
- Able to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and the general public.
- Applied intermediate mathematical concepts including exponents, logarithms, statistical analysis, and permutations.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Lab Management database (LMS), Microsoft Outlook, Internet Explorer and instrument-specific programs and software
- Proficient with use of micropipettes, laboratory balances, microcentrifuges, vacuum pumps, stereo or dissecting Light microscopes, sonicators, water baths, and pH meters.
- Exceptional time management, attention to detail, and analytical skills
The minimum required education and training include:
- BA/BS in biology or chemistry from a 4-year college or university with 2-4 years of related experience or equivalent experience.
- Knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices, Good Manufacturing Practices, and ISO
- Extensive experience with Flow Cytometry
- Proficiency with a variety of standard laboratory equipment/devises and procedures
All tasks are preformed in a laboratory setting with exposure to chemicals, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, vibration and fumes. On occasion employees may be exposed to extremes of cold or heat and risk of electrical shock.
Physical requirements: able to walk, sit, stand, use hands, see, talk, and hear; ambulate and reach with both hands and arms; regular lifting of 20 - 30 pounds with occasional lifting up to 50 pounds (with assistance); close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, ability to adjust focus, and ability to see color.
