Job Title: Accounting Supervisor
Reports to: Manager of Finance & Accounting
Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and dynamic Accounting Supervisor to lead and inspire a growing team of accounting professionals. This role emphasizes the importance of strong technical accounting knowledge, adherence to best practices, and the continuous empowerment and growth of the accounting team. The ideal candidate will combine expertise in accounting principles with a passion for fostering a positive, high-performing team environment, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency across all financial activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Team Leadership & Development:
- Supervise and lead a team of accountants, ensuring all accounting processes and financial reporting activities follow established protocols and best practices.
- Provide clear guidance and direction to the team, promoting a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous learning.
- Conduct regular performance reviews, offering feedback, setting development goals, and identifying opportunities for team members to enhance their technical skills and knowledge.
- Empower team members by delegating meaningful tasks that align with their professional growth while maintaining a high level of responsibility and ownership.
- Technical Accounting Expertise:
- Oversee the preparation of property-level financial statements in compliance with real estate industry standards, and GAAP as required.
- Guide the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and variance analysis, helping the team and management understand key financial drivers and outcomes.
- Ensure accurate accounting for real estate transactions, including acquisitions, dispositions, and capital project expenditures.
- Exercise sound judgment in resolving complex accounting issues, ensuring alignment with company goals and accounting standards.
- Serve as a key point of contact for external stakeholders as needed, including auditors, property buyers/sellers, lenders, banks, and clients, ensuring accurate and timely delivery of financial information and support during audits, transactions, and reporting cycles.
- Internal Controls & Compliance:
- Develop and maintain a robust system of internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure accuracy in financial reporting.
- Ensure adherence to industry standards and internal company policies across all accounting functions.
- Conduct periodic internal audits and reviews to identify areas of improvement and ensure compliance with financial standards and policies.
- Process Improvement & Efficiency:
- Continuously assess and improve accounting processes to increase efficiency, accuracy, and timeliness in all financial reporting activities.
- Standardize accounting procedures and reporting processes to ensure consistency and compliance across the team.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to streamline accounting processes and integrate them effectively with other business functions.
- Strategic Support & Decision Making:
- Work closely with upper management to provide critical insights and recommendations that support strategic decisions.
- Foster open communication between the accounting team and other departments to ensure accurate financial data flow and seamless decision-making.
- Recommend and implement policy or process changes based on financial analysis, audit findings, or observed inefficiencies.
- Serve as a decision-maker for escalated and complex issues to support business objectives.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA or CMA certification preferred).
- Proven track record of career progression in accounting roles, demonstrating increasing responsibility, leadership, and technical depth.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, internal controls, and compliance.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to structure team responsibilities and manage multiple projects.
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with a commitment to mentoring and empowering team members.
- Detail-oriented, with a strong commitment to accuracy, compliance, and maintaining financial integrity.
- Demonstrated commitment to continuous personal and professional development.
- 5 years of accounting experience preferred.
