Position Overview:
We are seeking a compassionate, patient, and adaptable Substitute Teacher to join our dedicated team at Spirit Walkers Child Care. The Substitute Teacher will step in for regular teaching staff during their absence, providing a safe, engaging, and nurturing environment for young children. The role involves maintaining a structured and positive atmosphere while ensuring the continuity of daily classroom activities and supporting the social, emotional, and educational development of preschool-aged children.
Key Responsibilities:
- Classroom Management: Supervise and ensure the safety of children during class time, recess, and other activities. Implement effective behavior management strategies in line with the preschool’s policies.
- Instructional Support: Follow the lead teacher’s lesson plans and classroom schedule, engaging children in age-appropriate activities such as storytelling, arts and crafts, circle time, music, and outdoor play.
- Health & Safety: Maintain a clean and safe environment, assist with toileting and handwashing routines, and respond to basic health needs or injuries following standard procedures.
- Communication: Collaborate with other teachers and staff to ensure smooth transitions and positive experiences for children. Communicate with parents when necessary, as directed by the lead teacher or director.
- Child Development: Observe and assist in the development of children’s social, emotional, cognitive, and physical skills. Provide positive reinforcement and support to foster a nurturing environment.
- Documentation: Record any incidents or noteworthy developments in children’s behavior or health, and report to the preschool director as needed.
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 19 years old and able to pass a criminal background check.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to bend, kneel, and sit on the floor for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and carry children (up to 40 lbs) as needed.
- Must be able to walk or stand for extended periods throughout the day.
Schedule & Compensation:
- Hours: 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM, Tuesday-Thursday, (hours will vary)
- Pay: Starting hourly wage $9.00.
