Overview
The Financial Analyst – Real Estate is part of the company’s Asset Services team. The position offers an early-career real estate professional a starting point for a career in real estate, excellent exposure to both the fee-managed and owner-side multifamily business with a focus on financial modeling, market analysis, new business development, reporting, and due diligence.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Operational Support:
- Assists in the creation and production of various monthly operating reports focused on various operational key performance indicators (KPI’s) including sales performance, budget performance and collection performance.
- Provides assistance in the review and analysis of operator provided annual budgets, including capital expenditures, operating expenses, and revenue assumptions.
- Supports the annual budgeting process for managed assets.
- Provides assistance in the quarterly reforecast of budgets, including revenue assumptions, operating expenses and capital expenditures.
- Provides assistance in the review of monthly community level reporting.
- Partners with the other Asset Services team members on the compilation of market studies, competitive analysis and strategy to conduct a property and operator level reporting trend analyses
- Assists in the preparation and presentation of asset management and disposition related summaries as necessary.
- Acquisition and Development Support:
- Assists in the preparation of operational and local market assessments on properties.
- Supports the new business development, acquisitions, and development teams as necessary by providing financial analysis on revenue and operating budget proformas and market demand/feasibility analyses.
- Assists in the evaluation of project feasibility and risks.
Required Skills and Abilities
- Education: The real estate analyst intern requires a Bachelor’s degree in Real Estate, Finance, Business, Economics, or a related field or strong STEM background.
- Experience: Experience in Multi-Family real estate a plus.
- Knowledge: The role requires experience managing workload, report productions, and programs.
- Research skills: The bulk of the job involves data collection and analysis; hence candidates must possess strong data collection, validation, and auditing skills.
- Analytical skills and problem-solving abilities: This role requires high level analytical skills to run financial models as well as analyzing all aspects of the local real estate markets.
- Organizational skills: The role requires the ability to multi-task, manage time, and workload.
- Strong written and oral communication skills: The candidate must possess solid or fluent writing skills as their job entails writing reports and rankings for internal and external professional communications. They must also possess oral communication abilities to effectively work in team environment and present reports and communicate technical or numerate data in a clear and concise manner.
- Entrepreneurial: Real estate analysts must be self-starters with the ability to work independently and think proactively and strategically. Also, they must be proactive and able to align research with the business for innovative research output.
- Computer skills: Experience in the use of Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Database systems preferred. Experience with SQL, Power BI, and/or Python a plus. Experience with Yardi and/or Entrata a plus.
- Team player: They require the capability to work within the team, and work within a diverse, collaborative, and driven professional environment.
