SUMMARY STATEMENT & PURPOSE: The Contact Lens Technician works under the supervision of an Optometrist, performing various clinic duties involving contact lenses and quality patient care. This position provides exceptional customer service while assisting patients with the proper selection and fitting of contact lenses, instruction of lens care, product, and trial inventory, verifying insurance benefits, and processing orders and sales.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES:
1. Performs patient workups and charting, including but not limited to taking proper patient history, documenting chief complaint, drop instillation, refracting, and administering appropriate ophthalmic tests.
2. Educates patients on their contact lens options and helps them make a choice that fits their medical needs as well as lifestyle preference.
3. Responsible for lens fittings, orders, and providing patient instruction for lens care including recommendations with regards to contact lens modality inspection and solutions.
4. Provides additional customer service by answering patient billing questions, processes scheduling appointments, and covering the reception desk as needed.
5. Maintains communication with physicians, clinic administration, and co-workers to assure delivery of quality patient services.
6. Participates in professional, skill, and business-related continuing education, including the National Contact Lens Examiner's National Registry, as required.
7. Required to travel to other Spokane Optical Company locations based on business need.
8. Meets sales guidelines established by management.
Requirements:MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be at least 18 and have a High School or General Education diploma (GED).
- Six (6) months in a customer service role.
- Medical Assistant Registered (MA-R) from the State of Washington within 60 days of employment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook, and ability to learn other software programs as needed.
- Ability to travel to different company locations.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- One (1) year experience in a clinical ophthalmic setting
- One (1) year of experience using optical software.
- NCLE or Optician certification
- Medical EHR/Nextgen software experience
