Overview
Under the leadership of the Lead Pastor, provide technical skills and leadership to ensure complete integrity and confidentiality with regards to the management and accounting of all church funds.
We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Bookkeeper to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting principles and practices. This role is essential for maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with regulations, and supporting the overall financial health of the organization.
Duties
- Prepare & process payroll for all staff.
- Complete payroll tax payments, filings, & annual reporting.
- Maintain general ledger within QuickBooks accounting system.
- Process journal entries and manage accounts payable/receivable.
- Process credit card statements, ensuring proper receipts.
- Perform bank reconciliations & bank deposits.
- Perform bookkeeping functions in Planning Center church management system.
- Prepare monthly financial statements, budget reports, & weekly statistics.
- Assist with budgeting processes and financial forecasting.
- Prepare tax documents and ensure timely filing in compliance with regulations.
- Assist line-item managers to ensure proper accounting of funds.
- Attend weekly staff meetings.
- Maintain contracts log.
- Support developments and maintainence of accounting procedures and internal controls.
- Assist with local and district church year-end reporting.
- Report income and make payments to meet the Church of the Nazarene funding goals.
- Maintain Missions accounts, support Missions team & track Missions trip funds.
- Assist with annual budget preparation and monitoring.
- Maintain charitable giving records, distribute annual charitable contribution statements.
- Provide support to weekly Counting Team.
- Maintain vacation and sick leave records.
- Collaborate with other departments to gather necessary financial information.
- Perform other accounting related tasks as assigned by Lead Pastor and/or Church Treasurer.
Working Relationships:
- Be able to work as a team member.
- Work closely with the Church Treasurer and the Finance Team
- Be willing to work with volunteers as the need arises.
Qualifications
- QuickBooks experience required.
- Strong working knowledge of accounting principles and practices required.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Keep sensitive materials & matters confidiential.
- Previous bookkeeping & payroll experience preferred.
- Experience with Planning Center church management software a plus.
