Job Summary
Join Spokane Transit as our Safety Coordinator and take on a pivotal role in shaping the safety culture of a dynamic transportation organization! As the Safety Coordinator, you will work closely with internal departments and external agencies to ensure compliance with critical safety policies, procedures, and regulatory standards like OSHA, WISHA, and FTA. You will also play a key role in developing and refining safety policies, conducting hazard assessments, and enhancing our emergency preparedness efforts. Supporting the Safety Manager, you’ll provide both administrative and technical expertise, making a meaningful impact on the agency’s overall safety strategy. Examples of Duties
The Safety Coordinator assists in the implementation of the Agency’s Safety Management System (SMS) and other safety programs. Responsibilities include:
- Support the development, implementation, and communication of safety policies, plans, and procedures in compliance with WISHA, OSHA, FTA, and other regulatory requirements.
- Conduct workplace risk assessments to evaluate potential hazards and ensure compliance with regulatory standards. Present findings and recommendations to management.
- Conduct root cause analyses on workplace accidents and safety incidents and recommend corrective and preventative measures to mitigate risks.
- Perform safety audits and employee consultations to proactively identify risks and promote adherence to safety protocols.
- Assist in the creation and monitoring of safety performance indicators and targets.
- Review and analyze accident data and event reports to identify trends, determine underlying causes, and recommend safety improvements.
- Develop, conduct, and continuously improve safety training programs to ensure employees are equipped to perform tasks in a safe manner.
Education and Experience
Associate degree from an accredited institution in occupational safety, health, environmental science, or a related field, and three years of experience supporting safety programs in an organization; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ideal Candidate Profile
Possesses OSHA 30, ASP, CSP or other relevant certifications
Knowledge of or experience with FTA compliance
Knowledge of safety management systems and best practices
Experience auditing fleets and garages
Experience conducting accident investigations
Experience creating and implementing OSHA L&I programs
