RATE OF PAY: $21.00 / PER HOUR

INTRODUCTION

The Family Violence Advocate provides comprehensive support, advocacy, and resources to individuals and families affected by family violence, including domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, and elder abuse, in our rural tribal community. This position plays a critical role in promoting safety, healing, and empowerment for survivors and their families through crisis intervention, advocacy, and community collaboration.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Understanding of the dynamics of family violence, including power and control tactics, trauma responses, and systemic barriers to safety and justice.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care principles and best practices for supporting survivors of trauma across the lifespan.
  • Ability to provide crisis intervention, safety planning, and advocacy services to survivors in a compassionate, culturally responsive, and empowering manner.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust, rapport, and therapeutic relationships with survivors and their families from diverse backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of available community resources, legal options, and support services for survivors of family violence, including tribal-specific resources and services.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, boundaries, and ethical standards in working with survivors and their families.

Position is required to be on-call 24 hours a day and on weekends for crisis response on a rotating schedule with other staff.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide direct care and support services to clients who experience all crimes.
  • Coordinate and develop reservation wide services, outreach services, and advocate for the victims in legal proceedings.
  • Under the direct supervision of the Family Violence Program Manager, the advocate will prioritize the safety and integrity of victims.
  • Assist with the coordinated community response to intimate violence.
  • Provide crisis intervention after initial contact by the client with 911 or Tribal law enforcement.
  • Provide assistance in making informed choices and decisions about police reporting.
  • Provide support during investigative and legal processes
  • Promote spiritual and cultural traditions.
  • Develop safety plans for client and self.
  • Keep strict Family Violence Program confidentiality standards regarding clients.
  • The incumbent will be on-call 24 hours a day and on weekends for crisis response on a regular basis Advise, assist, and update clients seeking protection and anti-harassment orders, both in person and by phone, and advocates for clients at protection order hearings.
  • When advocating for the client, ensure appropriate and timely delivery of quality services.
  • Debrief with your Team and/or the Family Violence Program Manager of new intakes.
  • Keep timely and accurate records of services provided in the client’s intake file.
  • Responsible for collecting data and completing monthly reports.
  • Responsible for providing trainings and educational programs about issues involving dating/domestic violence, internet safety, rape/sexual assault, stalking, bullying, sex trafficking, date rape drugs, healthy relationships, and related topics.
  • Maintain statistics of all activities for Grantor.
  • Requires travel.
  • Position is required to be on-call 24 hours a day and on weekends for crisis response on a rotating schedule with other staff. 
  • Other duties as assigned


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 6 months of experience working in the field of family violence advocacy, victim services, or related human services field.
  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice, advocacy, and empowerment of survivors of family violence.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.


PREFERRED REQUISITES

  • Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or a related field.
  • Experience working with tribal communities and knowledge of tribal culture, traditions, and governance structures related to family violence.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Salish.
  • Completion of a family violence advocate training program or certification as a Family Violence Advocate.
  • National Advocate Credential
