Who is a Lead Designer at SMT?

As a lead designer at SMT, you’ll work closely with the Director of Creative and Strategy to help plan, manage, and deliver design-driven projects on time and on budget. Your team will trust you to develop creative solutions for live sports events such as Golf, Tennis, and CrossFit, as well as high-end broadcast graphics packages for major networks and sports organizations.


You will play a leading role in the creation of video wall and television productions for our clients, coordinating efforts between designers, developers, and operations staff to ensure project success. You will provide creative and technical input to other designers, developers, and operations staff to advance SMT services and exceed client expectations. You'll get to create the roadmap, not just follow it.

What is Your Daily Impact at SMT?

  • Overseeing projects from concept to completion, working hands-on while guiding other designers.
  • Leading and briefing a collaborative team of designers, animators, and production artists to ensure they understand project goals and deadlines, inspiring them to produce excellent work and guiding them as needed.
  • Working closely with project coordinators/managers to ensure work is delivered within project deadlines and meets the client’s brief, both creatively and technically.
  • Developing responses to creative briefs, including style frames and conceptual treatments.
  • Collaborating with other Lead Designers and the Creative Director to ensure efficient allocation of artists to projects.
  • Assisting the Creative Director in building and developing a multi-disciplinary creative team, mentoring junior members through coaching, training, and feedback.
  • Staying up to date with current creative trends and innovations in design, motion graphics, and information design, particularly in the field of broadcast graphics.
  • Presenting work to clients in pitches, project updates, and feedback sessions.
  • Developing successful responses to creative briefs and RFPs, including concept development and style frames.
  • Representing the studio as a project lead, working with clients, external artists/technicians, and other departments to ensure successful project execution.
  • Fostering a culture of excellence in the creative use of techniques, software, and technology.
  • Working on the design and execution of broadcast graphics packages, including lower thirds, score bugs, augmented reality elements, and interactive live event visuals.


What Do You Bring to SMT?

Here are some of the key skills and experiences we are looking for in our future game-changing teammates:

  • 3 years’ experience as a senior designer or lead designer with an emphasis on sports and broadcast design.
  • Strong design and motion experience across environmental displays, UI/UX, broadcast, and live events.
  • Strong knowledge of design and motion techniques and the latest design processes.
  • Proficiency in relevant design software such as Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, etc.
  • Understanding 3D applications such as Cinema 4D, Redshift, Unreal Engine is a plus.
  • Experience leading projects and mentoring junior talent within the design department.
  • Strong presentation skills and ability to be a client-facing representative as needed.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and deliver high-quality work under tight deadlines.
  • Organized and methodical approach to work.
  • Excellent people and teamwork skills.
  • Good knowledge of production pipeline, techniques, and executions.
  • Working knowledge of current creative trends and innovations in motion graphics, particularly in live sports broadcast design.
  • Ability to report to our Jacksonville, FL office on a hybrid schedule.
