Media Relations Specialist

Spotlight PR LLC is a public relations consultancy servicing entrepreneurs, celebrities, executives and organizations committed to social and racial justice. We believe good people doing good work deserve high-quality public relations support. Established in 2016, Spotlight PR LLC services clients across the country. We aim to be the public relations firm of record for social and racial justice.

We are seeking a full-time media relations associate who will work from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday in the Columbus, Ohio area. This position will pitch our clients to national and state-based media, develop communications collateral, manage client relationships and provide other services as directed. The position is responsible for significant writing and editing, and applicants must be polished writers who enjoy the practice. This salaried position is highly visible support key accounts. Some travel is required.

Key Responsibilities:

· Research reporters and media outlets.

· Pitch reporters and producers via phone and email.

· Devote significant time to phone and email outreach to members of the media.

· Stay abreast of current events, including social justice movements and causes.

· Monitor the news daily.

· Monitor social media to determine coverage trends, story ideas and soft pitch opportunities.

· Write and distribute approved press advisories, press statements, pitch notes and opinion essays.

· Craft one blog post weekly.

· Post press releases and other communications content to the website as directed.

Basic Qualifications:

· Interest in social and racial justice movements.

· Sound judgment.

· Ability to write well, adhering to English language rules on grammar, syntax and structure.

· Bachelor's degree preferred or enrolled in a higher education program.

· Public relations or ad agency experience; or experience working within a communications department of an organization, and/or sales experience.

· Experience working for a union, political campaign, social justice organization or environmental entity.

· Ability to develop documents in Word and Excel.

· Excellent verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills.

· Responsive and open to feedback.

· Self-motivated.

· Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.

· Ability to track multiple projects and take detailed notes.

· Solid interpersonal skills including courtesy and professionalism.

· Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel)

The company is not able to offer health insurance or health benefits. The pay range for this position is $45,000 to $55,000 per year. Team members receive two weeks’ vacation per year.
