Spotsylvania County Public Schools is seeking a School Counseling Director to serve in a leadership capacity, overseeing a
team of School Counselors as they provide classroom lessons and counseling services to a diverse student population in support of their academic, career, and social/emotional development. This role will work closely with Administrators and Teachers to foster a positive school culture to enhance student well-being.
Essential Functions:
- Motivates and supports school counselors to provide the highest quality of school counseling support to students and families
- Facilitates professional learning experiences that equip school counselors to provide targeted support for students based on their mental health needs
- Collaborates with Administrators to develop robust counseling programs, providing feedback for program improvements and follow-up assessment ensuring proper implementation and positive results
- Provides leadership and professional support for principals regarding best practices in maximizing school counseling services
- Supports School Counselors, including the act of serving as a School Counselor, to advise and counsel students regarding academic, career and social/emotional concerns
- Assesses individual, group, and program needs and plans for the appropriate use of time, materials, and resources for responsive measures
- Uses a variety of assessment strategies and instruments to make both short-term and long-term goals to prove student learning; monitors goal progress; supports student achievement of established goals
- Evaluates student progress; provides students with prompt specific evaluative feedback; maintains appropriate records

Education and Experience:
- A Master’s Degree from a regionally accredited college or university
- Successful completion of a state-approved Counselor Preparation Program
- Three (3) years of successful, full-time, school counseling experience in a public or other accredited education entity

Employment Terms: Employment is offered as an 12-month (240 Day) contract, at a minimum of 7.5 hours worked daily. This position is evaluated annually.
