General Statement of Job
Under general supervision, performs a variety of tasks in support of the Public Works Department. Work involves monitoring the recycling and disposal of residential waste, along with maintenance of buildings. Employee is also responsible for ensuring that users comply with the rules and regulations of the facility set forth by the Operations Manager.
Special Duties & Responsibilities
- Monitors the disposal of residential waste.
- Removes snow and ice from yards and buildings; sweeps yards and rakes, blows and removes leaves.
- Picks up and disposes of litter around the buildings.
- Communicates with public in person or via telephone.
- Completes time sheets and relays information to Public Work Department.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Training & Experience
Some experience performing custodial related work or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Special Requirements
- Knowledge County organization, operation, programs, practices and procedures.
- Knowledge of hazards and applicable safety requirements of area of assignment, equipment, and machines used.
- Knowledge of and is able to use equipment, materials and tools used in the maintenance trade. Some knowledge in the use of mowers, pruners and other grounds maintenance equipment and tools.
- Ability to perform strenuous work under varying weather conditions. Is able to understand and follow oral instructions. Is able to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments.
- Ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable, functional, structural, or composite characteristics (whether similar to or divergent from obvious standards) or data, people or things.
- Ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information. Includes receiving assignments and/or directions from superiors.
- Ability to read a variety of reports, time sheets, pick-up logs, vehicle count forms, correspondence, procedural manuals, etc.
- Ability to prepare a variety of pick-up logs, forms, etc. Must be able to speak to people with poise, voice control and confidence.
- Ability to apply rational systems to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists; to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form.
- Ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow oral and written instructions. Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently.
- Ability to utilize mathematical formulas; to add and subtract; multiply and divide.
- Ability to communicate respectfully and professionally. Must be adaptable to performing under stress and when confronted with persons acting under stress.
