Spring Bank NY
New York, NY Full Time
POSTED ON 2/11/2025 CLOSED ON 3/19/2025

What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Green Lending position at Spring Bank NY?

About Spring Bank

Spring Bank is an FDIC-insured, mission-driven community bank headquartered in The Bronx, New York. Founded in 2007 as the first bank to headquarter in the South Bronx in 25 years—and the first B Corp Bank in New York State—we are committed to expanding financial inclusion and delivering innovative, affordable banking products that empower underserved communities.

Spring Bank is a U.S. Treasury-designated Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI), recognized for its investments and loans that support low- and moderate-income communities in New York City. We are also a preferred lender with the U.S. Small Business Administration, reinforcing our commitment to providing accessible and responsible financial solutions.

We are seeking an entrepreneurial leader to spearhead the next phase of growth of the bank by building a best-in-class green lending program that drives both business success and environmental impact.

We are looking for a dynamic, strategic, and entrepreneurial leader to build and scale Spring Bank’s Green Lending business. Reporting directly to the Bank’s President and serving as a key member of the management team, this role will lead the development and expansion of our green lending portfolio including commercial solar lending, building retrofits, e-bike loans, and C-PACE (Commercial Property Assessed Clean Energy) loans.

This is a unique opportunity to shape and lead a new business unit within an established and mission-driven financial institution. The Director will have the resources, executive backing, and market opportunity to develop a high-impact lending platform from the ground up—and will have the opportunity to build a team to support this growing division.

The ideal candidate will be both a visionary and an operator—able to define a strategy, cultivate relationships, and execute deals that position Spring Bank as a leader in financing the transition to a low-carbon economy.

What You’ll Do

Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and execute the strategic roadmap for Spring Bank’s Green Lending Platform in collaboration with executive leadership and the board.
  • Establish and grow a green lending team, hiring and mentoring staff as the platform scales.
  • Identify and prioritize high-impact lending opportunities that align with market demand and regulatory trends (e.g., Climate Mobilization Act, Local Law 97).
  • Develop new financial products that address the needs of commercial property owners, small businesses, and nonprofit organizations seeking to reduce carbon footprints.
  • Serve as the internal champion for climate finance, driving cross-functional collaboration to integrate sustainability into the Bank’s lending and investment priorities.
  • Serve as Spring Bank’s representative at external events, industry conferences, and policy discussions related to climate finance, sustainability, and community development.

Business Development & Deal Execution

  • Own and drive loan origination efforts—build a strong pipeline of green lending opportunities through direct outreach, partnerships, and industry engagement.
  • Cultivate and manage relationships with developers, commercial real estate owners, green contractors, local government agencies and green banks, and mission-aligned investors.
  • Lead underwriting and structuring of bankable, high-quality loans that advance climate goals while ensuring financial sustainability.
  • Guide credit and risk analysis teams in assessing green projects and structuring financing solutions that align with the Bank’s risk tolerance and impact objectives.

Scaling & Innovation

  • Leverage new funding sources, including public-private partnerships, guarantees, and grants, to accelerate growth.
  • Identify and develop strategic partnerships with green banks, CDFIs, renewable energy developers, and local municipalities to expand the Bank’s reach and deal flow.
  • Represent Spring Bank in policy and industry discussions on climate finance, ensuring we remain ahead of market trends.
  • Drive adoption of data and technology solutions to streamline underwriting, monitor portfolio impact, and optimize risk management.

What We’re Looking For

We want a self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment and is excited to build something from the ground up.

Required Experience & Skills

  • 6 years of experience in clean energy finance, C-PACE, renewable energy project financing, or sustainable real estate lending.
  • Track record of scaling a green finance business, launching new loan products, or leading high-impact lending initiatives.
  • Experience in Green Loan Origination/Underwriting, with strong knowledge of commercial loan structuring and risk analysis.
  • Familiarity with Local Law 97 and the Climate Mobilization Act and how they drive demand for clean energy lending.
  • Demonstrated ability to build partnerships, close deals, and lead teams in executing sustainable finance projects.
  • Strong network within the climate finance ecosystem (green developers, sustainability officers, city agencies, etc.).
  • Undergrad degree required; MBA preferred but not required
  • A problem-solver and deal-maker—someone who can translate policy trends into financing solutions that work.
  • Excellent communication skills, able to engage executives, policymakers, and customers alike.

Preferred Experience

  • Background in economic development, community finance, or CDFIs a plus.
  • Experience in securing public-private funding, such as DOE, New York Green Bank, NYSERDA, or municipal sustainability funds.
  • Fintech experience or familiarity with technology-driven lending solutions is a plus.
  • An entrepreneurial mindset—startup or business-building experience is highly valued.
