Software Specialist
Full-time, 12-month position available May 2025, at Spring-Ford Area School District.
The Software Specialist plays a critical role in the district's technological ecosystem by managing the complete lifecycle of software applications. This includes, but is not limited to, the evaluation, testing, licensing, installation, and decommissioning of software programs. Beyond these core responsibilities, the Software Specialist provides leadership and oversight to technology support staff, ensuring seamless operations and efficient problem resolution. This position also manages assigned technology-related projects, driving them to successful completion. A key aspect of the role is developing and delivering training to district staff, empowering them to effectively utilize software applications and maximizing the return on technology investments. The Software Specialist works as an integral part of the Systems and Network Administration Team and works under the supervision of the Director of Technology, with leeway for independent technical judgment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Job-Specific Responsibilities
- Identify, evaluate, test, and troubleshoot software for integration into the IT environment.
- Create application packages for deployment to district devices.
- Install/remove programs as required to support instruction and the proper operation of workstations and servers.
- Prepare and configure all software and systems before the beginning of each school year.
- Maintain records of software licensing and renewal requirements.
- Perform troubleshooting and research toward the resolution of software-related issues.
- Manage the integration of data between software systems.
- Manage and administer software applications and systems including but not limited to Canvas, Classlink, Linkit!, Google Workspace for Education, Intune, and JAMF.
- Develop and deliver training programs and materials for district staff on various software applications.
- Provide ongoing support and guidance to staff on software usage and best practices.
- Ensure that all software deployments and configurations comply with applicable data protection and privacy regulations.
- Responsibilities Common to All Systems and Network Administration Staff
- Evaluate and make recommendations for technology projects to support the district’s technology strategic plan.
- Provide third-level IT support for district end-users and Support Technicians.
- Support staff development and training on new technology.
- Develop strategic and tactical goals and planning objectives under the general direction of the Director of Technology.
- Manage assigned IT projects by directing project team members, managing project tasks, and providing status updates to district IT management.
- Create and update problem records in the district’s support tracking system.
- Practice lifelong learning as a strategy to maintain awareness and refresh knowledge in software administration and technology best practices.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Technology.
Qualifications:
- Technical School/2 Years College/Associate’s Degree or higher
- 2 Years experience in an education environment or related field
Minimum Specialized Skills Requirements:

This is an Administrative Support position. The salary range is $59,000 - $65,000, based on experience. Spring-Ford Area School District offers a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision and prescription insurance, as well as paid time off and paid holidays and a tuition reimbursement program. This position is part of the Public School Employees Retirement System (PSERS).
