PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The Buyer I is responsible for the purchasing function to support Procurement Services and the
Director of Purchasing including, but not limited to, reviewing department/campus purchase
requisitions into purchase orders; communicating information to staff; training assigned
personnel to their purchasing job requirements; ensuring compliance with financial, legal and
District requirements; and providing information and/or direction as may be requested.

Qualifications:
Required:
- High School Graduate or GED
- Two years job related experience
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
- Five years job related experience
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
- Proficient in both written and verbal use of English, spelling, grammar, and punctuation
- Ability to operate standard office equipment including computers
- Working knowledge of business applications i.e.- Internet, Google Chrome, and Microsoft Office
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Review Purchase Requisitions to assure compliance with State Law and Local Policies.
- Process electronic purchase requisitions.
- Process all purchase order changes and cancellations.
- Train new Secretaries and Bookkeepers on the district’s purchase order system.
- Assist users of the district’s purchase order system.
- Assist in the update and maintenance of the user’s manual for the district’s purchase order system.
- Ensure 1099 compliance when new vendor numbers are issued.
- Back-up and assist Executive Director’s Secretary and Travel Coordinator as needed.
- Issue and maintain vendor numbers for district use.
- Performs all other duties as assigned
WORKING CONDITIONS:
The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions is this professional work
environment require the following physical demands: physical mobility, standing, prolonged
sitting, some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling. This position will also require both
traveling within the district and occasionally state wide. Mental demands: Ability to solve
problems and deal with a variety of situations; ability to interpret a variety of data; ability to
interpret TEC and policy; ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory, ability to be
effective in both oral and written communication; ability to maintain emotional control under
stress.
