Farmstand Retail Plant Crew

Purpose/General Responsibilities: Work as a team to maintain, display, and sell plants and produce at the farmstand utilizing excellent communication and customer service.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Specific (Essential) Responsibilities:

• Attend daily crew meetings to schedule daily activities.

• Provide excellent customer service, answer customer questions, and utilize resources including other plant sales staff, managers, plant catalogs and references.

• Provide customers with ideas of what plants to include in their planters and landscape. Help the customer find what they are looking for and suggest additions including other plants, soils, pottery, and amendments.

• Know the layout of the plant sales area, including annuals, perennials, veggies, and houseplants. Locate plants for customers using available resources.

• Check water daily and water plants as needed in farmstand greenhouses, annuals and perennials areas of farmstand.

• Plant maintenance including deadheading, cleaning spent leaves, sending plants to rehab, weeding, and cutting back plants.

• Creating displays to show customers what is possible. Always keep benches looking full, with special attention to the display areas on either side of the farmstand ramp.

• Work with the greenhouse crew to unload and merchandise deliveries of plants & pots from the greenhouses and from other vendors.

• Know plant prices, pot sizes, and necessary SKUS to be proficient at tallying carts.

• Maintain annual and perennial sales areas by completing daily housekeeping tasks such as consolidating plants, weeding under benches, picking up tags, sweeping greenhouses, emptying compost buckets, etc.

• Assist with farmstand needs including setup and closing.

• Be familiar with the POS system and be able to operate the register when necessary.

Qualifications:

· Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. repeatedly throughout the day

· Ability to work outdoors in all kinds of weather conditions

Some qualities we are looking for:

• Crews must have excellent communication skills and be able to follow verbal and written instructions.
• Ability to shift quickly from task to task when priorities change.
• Ability to work alone doing detail oriented work and as part of a team on fast paced projects.
• Willing and prepared to work in all weather.
• Some plant knowledge is a plus, but not necessary.
• Crews must be willing and able to lift heavy bags of soil and plants.
• Must be prepared to get your hands dirty and be on your feet all day.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $13.00 - $18.00 per hour

Shift:

• 4 hour shift
• 8 hour shift

Work Location: In person
