The Biomedical Technician is responsible for the test, repair, and preventative maintenance of medical devices utilized withing Springfield Clinic for patient care. The position provides technical knowledge to healthcare staff in use and care of various types of medical equipment.
Job Relationships
Reports directly to Director of Facilities.
Principal Responsibilities
- Repairs, calibrates, and maintains medical equipment and instrumentation used in health-care delivery field. Utilizes hand tools, power tools, measuring devices, and manufacturers' manuals.
- Approves new biomedical equipment by conducting tests, ensuring adherence to codes, and making modifications.
- Safety tests medical equipment and facility's structure to ensure patient and staff safety from electrical or mechanical hazards.
- Improves biomedical equipment performance by studying machine-patient interaction, consulting with medical or research staff, developing modifications, and collaborating with equipment manufacturers.
- May demonstrate and explain correct operation of equipment to medical personnel.
- Maintains biomedical equipment by completing preventive maintenance schedules, conducting tests, following manufacturer's instructions, troubleshoots and repairs malfunctions, calls for special service, evaluates service contract, and maintain equipment inventories.
- Maintains biomedical equipment supplies inventory by checking stock, anticipating needs, placing and expediting orders, and verifying receipt.
- Evaluates proposed biomedical equipment by conducting tests and evaluations.
- Documents all repair actions and submits reports / summaries according to schedule.
- Prepares biomedical reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
- Establishes and engages in proactive daily communications with colleagues / vendors to ensure resolution and proper follow-ups.
- Enhances and maintains technical knowledge of current standards, codes, and procedures regarding safe and effective use of medical equipment through formal instruction.
- Maintains client / patient confidentiality (HIPAA compliance).
- Participate and share in "on-call' assignments as requested.
- Prepare for and participate in AAAHC, IDPH, Rural Health, and any other inspections required by overseeing regulatory agencies.
- Comply with the Springfield Clinic incident reporting policy and procedures.
- Adhere to all OSHA and Springfield Clinic training & accomplishments as required per policy.
- Provide excellent customer service and adhere to SC Way customer service philosophy.
- Perform other job duties as assigned.
