More about the Agency
The Springfield Jewish Community Center (JCC) is a welcoming and vibrant presence in western Massachusetts on the Longmeadow/Springfield line. The JCC offers programs for all ages, including preschool, youth and teen programs, adult programs, and senior adult life programs, and is home to the JCC Health & Fitness Center. The JCC is at the center of a multigenerational community where everyone is welcome.
Since 1896, including 65 years in its current location, the JCC has been the Springfield Jewish community's focal point for meeting the social, recreational and cultural needs of the Jewish community. The JCC currently has an annual operating budget of about $5 million. The JCC’s 83,000 sq. ft. facility, which has been updated with numerous additions and renovations over the years, sits on 23 acres of land. The JCC’s facilities for children and families include an onsite ACA-accredited day camp with a low and high ropes course, outdoor playgrounds, multiple classrooms, a crafts room and an auditorium. The Early Learning Center (ELC) is a preschool that serves children ranging in age from infants to age 5. The JCC operates after school programs on-site and for a neighboring town. In addition, the JCC hosts the local BBYO chapter. One of the exemplary programs at the JCC is the Kehillah Department which provides social, recreational, and enrichment programs for children, teens, and adults with special needs. The Springfield JCC welcomes people of all abilities and backgrounds.
Fitness facilities include a 4,000 sq. ft. fitness center with the latest equipment, a new aerobics and functional fitness room, a racquetball and squash court, a gymnasium, indoor pool (recognized as one of the best in western Massachusetts), an active pickleball program, and indoor and outdoor basketball courts. The JCC has a highly regarded adult and cultural arts program as well.
Over the past several years, the JCC has been working to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic and a fire in November 2022 that closed the facility fully for nearly four months and partially for over a year. The fire, which occurred in the Women’s Locker Room sauna, has led to extensive renovation of damaged spaces. The JCC recently reopened its Women’s Locker Room and Family Locker Room. Currently, the Men’s Locker Room is under construction and is set to reopen in the fall. As part of rebuilding efforts, the JCC turned two former racquetball courts into a Functional Fitness Room, which provides a different type of wellness experience.
Prior to the pandemic, the JCC embarked on a capital campaign to renovate the facility. This effort was paused at the onset of the pandemic. To date, $4.1 million has been pledged. At the end of 2022, the capital campaign was restarting and the fire halted efforts. The campaign is ready to be relaunched and, while the JCC was unable to fundraise due to the fire, grant opportunities were explored. The JCC was recently awarded $1M in federal funding for renovation and expansion of childcare facilities (early childhood and school aged spaces).
