Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Library Science, Education, or a related field (required).
- Master’s degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS) or School Library Science (preferred).
- Pennsylvania School Library Certification (K-12) (required).
- Strong knowledge of children’s and young adult literature.
- Familiarity with information literacy, research methodologies, and digital resources.
- Proficiency in library management systems and educational technology.
- Excellent communication, organization, and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work effectively with students, staff, and parents in a diverse school community.
Description:
The School District of Springfield Township is seeking candidates who possess excellent interpersonal skills, the desire to work with energetic students, and the ability to relate well within the school community. This position will be a School Librarian working with students in grades 3-5. SDST is committed to diversity in our workplace and welcomes the opportunity to consider all candidates.
The following are a list of responsibilties fulfilled by this position:
- Curate, organize, and maintain an up-to-date and diverse library collection, including books, digital resources, and multimedia materials.
- Ensure materials align with state standards, curriculum needs, and student interests.
- Oversee cataloging, circulation, inventory, and weeding of materials.
- Teach students research skills, information literacy, digital citizenship, and responsible technology use.
- Support literacy programs, reading initiatives, and book clubs.
- Collaborate with teachers to integrate library resources into lesson plans and classroom activities.
- Provide guidance on selecting age-appropriate and curriculum-aligned materials for students and educators.
- Promote and teach the use of educational technology tools, databases, and online resources.
- Assist students in evaluating, citing, and ethically using information from various sources.
- Support teachers in incorporating digital tools and research strategies into their instruction.
- Create an inviting, inclusive, and engaging library space that supports a reading culture.
- Plan and host events such as author visits, book fairs, reading challenges, and literacy nights.
- Encourage students’ independent reading by offering book recommendations and literacy activities.
- Develop and manage the library budget, including purchasing books, resources, and technology.
- Maintain library policies and procedures aligned with school and district guidelines.
- Supervise and train student library aides, volunteers, or support staff.
