What are the responsibilities and job description for the Special Education Teacher – Math Focus (Grades 7–12) position at Springfield?
We are seeking a Special Education Teacher who is confident teaching math to students in grades 7–12. This position is based at a small, all-girls residential school in Springfield, MA. Students are referred to this setting because traditional public school placements are not currently an option. Many have been involved with the justice system or experienced significant life disruptions. Your role is to help reestablish educational progress through structure, compassion, and consistency.
Responsibilities
Deliver standards-based math instruction to small groups of students in grades 7–12
Adapt lessons and provide accommodations to meet IEP goals and learning differences
Foster a trauma-informed, supportive classroom environment
Collaborate with counselors, case managers, and residential staff to ensure aligned support
Track academic progress and contribute to individualized education planning
Support students' personal and academic development

What You’ll Need:
Massachusetts Special Education teaching license (Moderate Disabilities 5–12 preferred)
Demonstrated ability to teach math content to middle and high school students
Experience working with at-risk youth or in alternative education settings
Strong classroom management and student engagement skills
Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or related field
